i picked this up during the semi-annual dvd planet sale and i think that $89 should be a pretty good price IIRC. it's not like there's a huge demand for this like band of brothers or the godfather that will drive the price down.

Re: Planet of the Apes: 40 Year Evolution Blu-ray Collection 11/4/08

Anyone buy the stand-alone Planet of the Apes disc? I bought this a couple of years ago when it was on Amazon.com for $45, and I hadn't thrown any of the discs in until now (figured I ought to, since I've never seen them and Rise is on the horizon). Shockingly, thanks to Fox's stupid goofy rubber hubs, there's a giant crack in my copy of the original. I want to know if the disc art in the stand-alone edition is the same as the one in the set. Don't want my discs to look all goofy.

Why would it matter anyway and what would make them look goofy? Does it really matter if each disc has different pictures on the disc and don't match up?

the films have a visual scheme that works well together. If they're different..it sticks out like a sore thumb. I understand what he means....but...when I've already opened something...I look at all the discs ASAP to make sure there's no weird damage.. I dunno if it was still sealed but...if not...damn that sucks.

The disc art sticks put where? It's either in the case or in the player.
I know droidguy isn't a troll but saying the disc art is cause for problem is ridiculous.

Re: Planet of the Apes: 40 Year Evolution Blu-ray Collection 11/4/08

it's a visual unity of the piece. Does it affect the quality of what's in the set? No. But it is something to bring up if you're going to replace it w/ a disc that doesn't have the disc art scheme...not that big of a deal..but it is a visual issue...cuz...it tied the room together, man.

Re: Planet of the Apes: 40 Year Evolution Blu-ray Collection 11/4/08

Thanks for the pic, Mr. Cinema, it's the same disc.

And yeah, it's an extremely nice looking set -- perhaps one of the nicest I own -- and I don't want it to look goofy because I had to replace a disc.

Snake: the hubs grip the disc. For all I know, I broke it taking it out yesterday. It's dumb. I remember someone once posted that Wal-Mart sold stick-on hubs...but again, I don't want to mess up such a nice-looking set.

Contact Fox about a free replacement.

I got this a few months ago and finally got around to opening it this weekend. Each and every disc is scratched to hell. The packaging is impressive but the way the discs are held blows.

Re: Planet of the Apes: 40 Year Evolution Blu-ray Collection 11/4/08

Thread necro:

Amazon does not appear to be selling the single discs anymore, and the big set is still going for a pretty high price. Were all the on disc extras from the box set carried over to the single discs?
I was thinking of trying to buy these single Blu's to replace my DVDs, but with everything being out of print apparently, I'm wondering if I should wait for Fox to try to re-release them alongside the new movie?

thanks

The single-discs that were made available are the same, exact discs found in the box set.

You'll be missing out on the booklet and incredibly inconvenient packaging if you don't buy the boxset.

I'd be willing to bet Amazon will have all Apes related titles on sale when the new one hits BD.

Doing some digging on Bluray.com there was apparently a Costco exclusive box of the five movies in a basic box for like $28. I'm going to try to find that or just grab the singles.

tks

I had written an exhaustive, passionate, and repetitious defense of those nubs, enumerating all the reasons they are actually superior to the standard hubs on digipack trays and cases.
And then I went and pulled the set out tonight and yeah- they do suck. At least as they are implemented here they do.
The only other time I've seen them used was on the Battlestar Galactica HD DVD set, and in on that the nubs seemed taller which made screwing them on and off much, much easier.

Got this set for Xmas. All I can say is "goddamn!" because I'm seriously impressed with how nice it is. $40 is a steal for the book alone. It's easily one of the best sets I own.

Yeah, Costco had a standard cardboard box/sleeve with the regular Blu-cases inside. They were stocking it when RotPotA was in theaters and then again these last couple weeks around Christmas.

Re: Planet of the Apes: 40 Year Evolution Blu-ray Collection 11/4/08

I was just trolling the Amazon.uk site to contemplate finally pulling the trigger on the 15-pound (pound sterling, not weight) Alien Anthology when I came across the POTA five-movie for about the same price and bluray.com says it's region-free. I haven't gotten on the bandwagon of the UK BD deals, but these have me tempted.

tks
I bought the Costco set some years back; it was that inexpensive.

Meanwhile, I heard there were troubles playing the 2008 set on PowerDVD 2018; I had no issues with 2016.

Re: Planet of the Apes: 40 Year Evolution Blu-ray Collection 11/4/08

I have had nothing but problems with the original box set.

Some movies wouldn't play so I had to go buy a new blu ray player.

I still have one movie that doesn't play(the last one) probably because of the idiotic packaging.

This is one bad thing about buying box sets is when one or more discs won't play.
