Criterion releases on Blu-Rays

Re: Criterion releases on Blu-Rays
I will definitely purchase the Criterion Blu-ray of BB, as I really liked the film. I've been very pleased with their decisions lately.
And, I think, at the worst, the 2-Disc BD is going to be around $29 on Amazon and $32 on Criterion's website. That's what it has been with most $39.99 releases.
Thanks for the info, dx.

Re: Criterion releases on Blu-Rays
It's because of David Fincher, most likely. Criterion and Fincher have had a solid working relation ship since the LD days. He must have finally convinced Paramount to work with Criterion.
I think the main reason all of his films have not been under the Criterion label is due to studios relations ships with Criterion. Sony's (Panic Room) relationship went south with Criterion years ago, and Fox (Alien 3 & Fight Club) has never been a big supporter of third party releases.
New Line's SE of Seven was a re-purpose of the Criterion SE, and to this day we haven't gotten the SE of The Game on DVD, which is probably due to some type of haggling between Criterion and Universal, I think that who distributes it now... Hopefully, that will get resolved one day.

Re: Criterion releases on Blu-Rays
None of my Criterion's really match anyway. Old logos, new logos, cardboard slipcases, plastic slipcases, no slipcases.
Anyway, I didn't care about the cases at first. After seeing them I think they are cheap and flimsy, but I am not going to make a big issue out of it. Now a Benjamin Button CC Blu Ray is going to attract buyers who have never bought the other CC Blu Rays and thus generate a bunch of complaints. Not a great way to treat a major release fresh from the theaters.

Yeah, they already don't match. So why does it matter? I'd ask you why you even care if they match or not - a spine is a spine is a spine...
I asked this before and got no response, but I just don't understand this obsession with matching packaging/spines.

I don't get this. Is that a running joke? I've seen people mention Good Burger and Criterion together a lot over the years.
I am definitely going to pick this movie up now as a blind buy. I wasn't even sure I wanted to see it, even with my love for most of David Fincher's films, but Columbia House added it to their club (along with Valkyrie) so I have another worthwhile order when they do another B1G1.

Re: Criterion releases on Blu-Rays
Criterion have already said they plan to switch to plastic cases for Blu as soon as they get some custom ones lined up (they refuse to use the standard blue cases), so it's going to happen sooner or later.

I can understand storing titles by genre, director, by year or even alphabetical, but by the production company for the home video release?
