Neil Young "Archives" To Be Released On Blu-ray

It appears that Neil Young will be releasing a significant portion of his back catalog on Blu-ray:

Neil Young Music

Although the article is brief, it seems that these will primarily be audio files on the discs, not video files, (other than on-screen menus as with DVD-A, and possibly some extras).

Looking forward to this, but after checking out that preview video, I'm afraid that it might be like those clunky "multimedia presentation" discs they were so fond of in the mid-90s... I don't want to have to take a stroll through Neil Young's life every time I want to listen to an album in the Archives set.

Little more info here:

Looks like there will be some videos too. This part is a bit inaccuate though:

Fans can download more content like songs, photos and tour information directly to the Blu-ray discs as the content becomes available
"Directly to the discs"? Um, not yet anyway.

Neil has been releasing and delaying his Archives for 20 years now, but it looks like it's finally a go. He was waiting for the right medium (since he has never been a fan of the audio quality of standard CDs.) I'm curious also about the downloading of new content on the Blu-Rays, because I'm not sure how that will be done, but he is saying that this feature will be available. If you want a ton of info and links on this, here's a great site to browse:

So, anyone else picking this up during the sale next month? It'll be $178.50 from DD, minus $9.52 cashback. My only ambivalence over the set was not being able to listen to the music on anything but my Blu-ray player, but according to Sound and Vision's review, "The set includes a card that allows you to download all of the music tracks as MP3s." I assume these mp3s are free for owners of the set?

Yeah, the MP3s are free... I'm anticipating either a price increase at DD or suddenly unavailable before the sale starts on this though, hope I'm wrong.

I hadn't even thought of that. Now I'm all worried.

According to this, the first run is sold out. I'm very close to pulling the trigger at Amazon.

Gah, you're killing me! What about this comment: "The label is surprised that it needs to already replenish stock...." If WB is going to replenish stock, it shouldn't be an issue, right?

Shouldn't be, but you never know, especially with Neil involved. The price has held me back here, but I hate chasing after anything OOP... if it's something I really want, I like to grab it as soon as I can, and this set looks like the greatest BD app to date.

Great Review

I was going to wait for the deepdiscount sale but since it is no longer available on their site Barnes and Noble has a decent price if you are already a member combined with the 15 percent coupon(there may be a 20 percent off code at the end of the week).
Also you may be able to save an additional 10 percent through Bing.com

Those interested in this set should pick up it up immediately. I received this email from WB Customer Service on Tuesday:
At this time we do not plan on running additional copies of the Archives set.
Still in stock at Amazon, though as uglyjay mentioned above, B & N has the lowest price - my order was $227.57 shipped, minus $22.76 cashback.
