Don't buy Fox old movie Blu-ray

I think the price for old movie is not so reasonable:

Independence day $29.99
Patton $29.99

.....

Don't buy it , until fox reduces their price.

Lionsgate is very reasonable:

Rambo - First Blood Part II $13.95

CKMorpheus 04-24-08 04:21 PM

I think you'll have a hard time convincing people not to buy expensive Blu-Rays, although a lot of people here can find great deals all over the net and in retail stores.

kefrank 04-24-08 04:25 PM

Independence Day is $19.95 at Amazon currently. Am I allowed to buy it at that price? :)

I will say that the Patton pricing is pretty ridiculous. The MSRP for the DVD coming out the same day is $19.98, which is half of the MSRP for the BD.

bunkaroo 04-24-08 04:30 PM

I'm not a fan of Fox's pricing, but I buy what I want regardless.

I pretty much never watch extras. For me it's all about the film. So it doesn't matter to me whether a film is new or old. If I buy a day and date Paramount title from $28 from Amazon, to me that is no different than buying Patton. They're both films I want in HD.

Regarding Rambo 2 and 3, this is the first time LG is doing a lower list price, and I have a feeling it is largely due to the two movies being released in a pretty cheap box set the same day. If LG does more $20 list prices on higher profile catalog releases, then I'll get excited.

True_Story1011 04-24-08 04:39 PM

truelies, because you made a very compelling case on why I shouldnt purchase Blu-ray with all the data and facts you provided... I'm going to one up this boycott - I'm going to sell all my fox titles.

nevermind - the urge passed.

No, because it's a screwed up release anyway. If they don't include all versions of a title currently available on SD, then piss on them. I won't buy it. I sort of hated paying $20 for Broken Arrow, but I did because the SD was matted shit and I love that movie. In the case of ID4 though, the SD-DVD is perfectly fine.

Had a long rant about why catalog titles are worth just as much as most of the worthless day and date titles that come out anymore, but I erased it to second your post.

Patton is worth it's Amazon price. Period.

Drexl 04-24-08 06:36 PM

I just wait for sales on Fox catalog titles.

Yep, the B1B1 deals for these titles pop up every few months.

True_Story1011 04-24-08 07:46 PM

In all seriousness though, he does have a point.

But instead of boycotting BD films from a studio whynot a month long boycott from America on gasoline? Those day long boycotts dont do shit to the deep pockets of oil tycoon companies.

Mr. Cinema 04-24-08 09:12 PM

Fox had the highest pricing when DVD started up. They are the highest priced this time around as well. Sad, but true.

Gizmo 04-24-08 09:50 PM

The only Fox Blu-ray titles I own were either because of a BOGO, a $19.99 sale (which is fair for a catalog title) or a Day and Date as they are on par with with most studios save for an extra $2-$7.

True_Story1011 04-24-08 10:02 PM

...favorite fox title would have to be 'The Fly'

waylonsmithers 04-24-08 10:24 PM

The only fox catalog titles I have were got from BOGO or other sales. I'm not paying $25+ for a barebones disc.

valkyrie 04-24-08 10:57 PM

LOL. At least I wasn't the only one thinking that. ;)

True_Story1011 04-24-08 10:58 PM

wouldnt it be funny if those numbers hit on the National Powerball...

The Bus 04-24-08 11:09 PM

Uh, I'm with the OP. I'm not paying $40 for anything. I did get KoH for $15 on sale.

Gizmo 04-24-08 11:10 PM

Wow...look at that thread title. Wow.

whotony 04-25-08 12:09 AM

i've never seen the Fox old movie, Blu-Ray, what is it about?

argh923 04-25-08 12:50 AM

Now I'm going to, just to spite the OP.

Boba Fett 04-25-08 01:48 AM

I laughed when I was in Target the other day and saw the barebones Predator Blu-Ray for $35, sitting near the absolutely loaded Close Encounters Blu-Ray set for $30

Michael Corvin 04-25-08 06:41 AM

My most wanted disc right now is i, Robot (guilty pleasure) but as I've said before there isn't a chance in hell I'm buying it for $20 let alone the $40 asking price when the DVD can be found for sub $10.

I might bite around $15.

darkside 04-25-08 07:07 AM

I'm playing the waiting game for most of the discs I want as well. A few movies are worth it to me to get right away, but most will have to wait for the $15 and under level.

I haven't purchased a Blu-ray disc since February.
