Ok, so I'm getting a PS3...some quick questions...

Ok, so I'm getting a PS3,

I decided, along with the help form you guys, that its the best choice for Blu Ray. Not only that, but if those standalone players that are coming out from Sony this summer turn out to be amazing, I can always sell the PS3 to a gamer.

So as you can tell, I'm not a gamer. I suppose if there is a game that is fun enough, it could be interesting. I have a Wii, which to me is more fun cause you are up doing something, but maybe there is a football game that I will get into or something. A couple of questions first:

-Does the GB size matter when using it just for Blu Ray? What exactly is the GB space used for?

-The PS3 will be sitting on a desk, alone, not enclosed by anything. Is that ok for it heat wise? I know it can get really hot. Should I not watch 2 movies in a row?

Let me know what you think.

The GB amount will not matter if you're just watching Blu-Rays. As long as you have it in an open area you can watch 2 movies in a row with no problem. If the system gets too hot it shuts itself down to cool.

GB space on the PS3 means nothing. 20GB would be fine as would 5GB/10GB if Sony offered them.

- As mentioned, the GB makes no difference to the Blu-Ray playing. The GB space is for music/videos you have stored, saved games, and downloadable content available from the Playstation Store.

- I have no idea where these 'PS3 is very hot' ideas come from, but I can assure you (as an owner) it does not. It does get warm, but only slightly - at no time has my PS3 ever been 'hot' to the touch, either during Blu-Ray playback or after 4+ hours of COD4 online gaming. The PS3 has a cooling fan that has a low/med/high speed, depending on what you're doing. Some units have been known to have 'noisy' fans, but it appears to only affect a few units.

My PS3 sits in an enclosure with decent ventilation and has never been a problem. I have a 60GB bought at launch (Nov 06).

Pic of where it is (you can see it bottom right):

Just got one Sunday! Don't forget about the sonystyle.com credit card that gives you $100 off a $299 purchase (and mine already got credited!!!!).

As the others have said, don't worry about GB space. One of the best features of the PS3, is that it's very easy to upgrade the hard drive. So if you start playing lots of games or find that you're downloading tons of stuff, just swap out the drive for a bigger one.

You can use any inexpensive 2.5" SATA laptop drive. Only takes a few minutes and all you need is a screwdriver. Plus, it doesn't void the warranty (it's even covered in the instruction manual). Check out this step-by-step picture guide to see how easy it is:

The PS3 most definitely gets hot... However, I have yet to have any issues with it.
