Certain HD titles with less extras than SD versions?
I have the 2 Disc releases of films like The Sting, and The Deer Hunter, which are Universal, and 2 disc versions of things like Purple Rain, and Unforgiven which are WB.
All of those are on HD, but it seems like the HD versions of the Universal titles don't really feature the extras the the 2 Disc SD does, but rather the 1 disc version. However, the WB HD titles are like their 2 Disc SD counterparts, including all the extras. Am I right or wrong about this? Are the HD versions of any of the above mentioned titles much better than their SD counterparts in terms of quality? |
Top Gun has ZERO extras on HD DVD. Some Universal combo discs only have extras on the SD side of the disc (Animal House, Fast Times).
And while I don't own Blu-Ray, I've heard many FOX titles are bare bones while there are SD Special Editions. |
Is this some strange marketing strategy to get people to buy this new format? -confused- :hscratch:

I don't buy a title any more without googling a review to make sure features are included.
It would be nice if a site had a summary list of some sort of what titles are missing features vs the DVD. |

Pretty much all of Fox's blu-ray releases have few to none of the DVD's extras.

All of the Universal releases, with the exception of Knocked Up and King Kong, include all of the extras on their HD-DVDs. Except for the combo discs, where the extras are on the SD side (Slither, Animal House, etc).

Even the limits of trying to successfully get a new format off the ground. |
bumping up this thread as Independence Day is yet another HD title with less than the SD version.
So why exactly was more storage capacity ever an issue? This is really beginning to not only sour me on Blu Ray, although as an HD-DVD owner first, I was never really a big fan to begin with. Now with a PS3 that I spent $400.00 on, I have to justify to the wife why I spent that money if I routinely have to buy the SD version anyways to be able to get my money's worth as far as extra content or DC versions are concerned. |
Add to that the fact that in store bonus discs are only included with the Standard DVDs. I guess at this point it might be expensive to manufacture bonus Blu-rays, but it would be nice to see them at least offer the bonus standard DVD with a Blu-ray purchase.
