Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray

And our friends at Blue Underground have set William Lustig's Vigilante for release on Blu-ray Disc on 9/21 (SRP $29.98 - the film is already available on DVD). The release will feature a brand new 2K high-def transfer of the original uncut and uncensored version, mastered from the original camera negative. Audio will be DTS-HD MA 7.1 lossless with D-Box motion control enhancement. Extras will include BD-exclusive audio commentary with co-producer/director William Lustig and co-producer Andrew W. Garroni, a second commentary with Lustig and stars Robert Forster, Fred Williamson and Frank Pesce, theatrical trailers, TV spots, radio spots and a promotional reel.

Looks like it's bringing over all of the original DVD's materials and throwing in a second commentary.

Now let's get Maniac, Django Strikes Again and some more Argento titles.

I keep hoping for a Larry Cohen box set. Vigilante looks like fun though. Deathdream is another BU title I'd happily double-dip on.

I'd kill for a Cohen boxset on Blu.

Just ordered City of the Living Dead and Django. Looking forward to watching them in hi-def.

Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray

Watched Django last night, looked pretty damn good, I was pleased.

Since this is a thread for both BU and Synapse, what is the status on any blu's from Synapse? They have many titles in their catalog that I would be interested in buying if they released a blu-ray version.

Thanks!

I went ahead and ordered all 3 the other day. Came out to about $63. Not bad

Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray

Details about BD release of Maniac.....and more?

http://www.fangoria.com/index.php?op...ews&Itemid=167

The notorious Joe Spinell-starring gorefest will be unleashed in two-DVD and two-Blu-ray sets October 26, with a brand new hi-def transfer and (on the latter) 7.1 DTS-HD audio. Special features have yet to be finalized, but we’re told there will be around six or seven hours’ worth of ’em, including fresh interviews with lead actress Caroline Munro, FX creator Tom Savini, composer Jay Chattaway and “Maniac” songwriters Michael Sembello and Dennis Matkosky (yes, the FLASHDANCE hit was originally intended for MANIAC’s soundtrack!). We’ll bring you full details as soon as we get ’em. Lustig’s urban actioner VIGILANTE makes its Blu-ray debut via BU September 21, and on the company’s Blu-ray schedule for 2011 (no specific dates yet) are Dario Argento’s DEEP RED, INFERNO and CAT O’ NINE TAILS, Larry Cohen’s Q: THE WINGED SERPENT and GOD TOLD ME TO and Harry Kümel’s DAUGHTERS OF DARKNESS.

Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray

Yay on Larry Cohen! Why not a box set with Bone though? As for six or seven hours of extras on Maniac, there is no way that commentary track(s) are not included in that total. If they mean 6 or 7 hours of interviews and documentaries, then that's just.....insane.

Maniac! Awesome news.

Good to hear more Argento is coming, but the rest are curious choices. Lustig makes some weird picks.

Inferno - 2011 on Blu-ray from Blue Underground

Tenebre - No release, title owned by Anchor Bay/Starz
[Region-free release from Arrow coming in August.]

Phenomena - No release, title owned by Anchor Bay/Starz

Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray

Wow, Cohen on Blu!! Has the sky fallen? Q: will look wonderful in 1080p!

To the powers that be: Please, please also release BONE and my favorite Cohen film: THE STUFF! This time, hopefully the deleted scenes Cohen mentioned in the commentary will be included that were left off the DVD release in 2000.

Can an IT'S ALIVE trilogy boxset on Blu be far off? We can always dream!

Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray

I welcome any and all Argento titles to blu. Vigilante looks like something up my alley so thats a definite blind buy. Maniac is one of my favorite "slasher" films even though its a little above the normal body count films so that is a no brainer. And who doesn't love that Larry Cohen will be in high-def?

Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray

Blue Underground kind of annoys me. I almost wish they'd get bought out by a bigger studio or something. I mean, am I the only one that thinks we should see price drops on movies like Uncle Sam (1997)? Who the hell would pay more than $10 for that? It's still $14 at Amazon. I waited 5 goddamn years for it to go on sale, to replace my VHS, and it never did! I finally cracked and picked it up last November. I don't think it was even listed on DD during the sales. The DVD version still isn't. The BD preorder is only $20 on there right now though. Probably the cheapest we'll ever see the thing.

God forbid the small time guys releasing stuff big studios generally won't even touch try to make some money by charging a reasonable amount for it and having the price hold.

Believe me, you don't want BU to be bought out by a major studio.

Agreed.

In terms of studios like Blue Underground, Synapse, Unearthed Films, Dark Sky and so forth, I don't mind paying a premium for the Horror, Sci-Fi and Exploitation films they put out. As you said most studios would not go near 99% of the films they release with a stick, let alone put as much love/care into the transfer, sound quality and extras.

This was talked about briefly by Don May Jr. (President of Synapse Films) when a poster over at AVManiacs.net Forums' said Synapse's eventual Blu-Ray's should be $15 or less.

Also in terms of your comment of how the Uncle Sam DVD isn't listed during DD's sale (it's in a bundle/2-Pack with BU's release of Deathdream for $10.18 for both):

I highly doubt a major studio would ever release a film like "Torso" on regular DVD let alone Blu-Ray (and if they did it probably would be cut and look like crap). Always support the little guys.

Re: Blue Underground and Synapse Films to release on Blu-ray

As for Synapse:

We are currently working on a new version of THE IMAGE and we have a few Blus in the pipeline (like the 42ND STREET FOREVER). But, we aren't committing to anything yet. While there will be Blu in our future, we don't know exactly when, nor do we know what the first title will be. The problem is that the industry is so dire right now, what I said two years ago no longer applies.

Sales gotta pick up for us to commit to doing a lot of our back catalog on Blu.
