From Synapse's Don May, Jr. at Mobius:
(Posting into and retitling the Blue Underground thread since I figured both'd appeal to the same bunch.)
Right now, we've got ONE Blu-Ray title in the works... and I don't even want to talk about it until I can see some good results. I'm a picky bastard and I just want to make sure I'm comfortable with Blu-Ray authoring before we venture into any other titles... and price is a factor and Blu-Ray ain't cheap. Once all is well with it, we'll announce it officially... not sure when it'll be out, though.
Our plan is to maybe announce a couple future titles (two I haven't announced yet, but will when the time is right) to have a simultaneous day & date DVD and Blu-Ray release.

Reviews of Synapse Films' titles at DVD Talk
Their DVDs look unbelievable -- there's an attention to detail there that very few studios can match -- so I have extremely high hopes for their Blu-ray releases. Before either of the next-gen formats launched, Synapse pointed to The Image, Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural, and Document of the Dead as their first HD DVD releases. Dunno if Don is looking at any of those as that initial Blu-ray release or something else entirely.

'Noteworthy' is a very subjective concept, of course...

Synapse has put out some great, obscure films and Don's love of these films shows through in his company's releases. I can't wait to see what they have plans for on Blu-ray.

Freaking awesome. I absolutely LOVE Maniac.
And Uncle Sam? That's a guilty pleasure of mine, never thought I would see the day that Uncle Sam was made Blu before something like Star Wars or Titanic!

Zombie (i.e. the one with the zombie vs. shark?) is both Blue Underground and another studio I think. Seems odd they didn't do Zombie first as it would be an easy first sale!

Thats the one I'm talking about!
I'd just about kill to get that title...
When I witnessed BU signing, I seriously thought this was going to be their first unit out. I'm sure they'll get some emails about this...

The real question is...
How well does everyone think they'll do on the transfers?
Sidenote: I've gotta start selling some of my other HDM titles... I was just about purchasing everything that I enjoyed - and only really watching them maybe once to twice a year.
I dont wanna make the same mistake as I did with SD...
I'm just thinking about all the money thats gonna go by-by when Criterion finally starts getting those titles they announced out later this year...
OH BROTHER!!

Blue Underground can kinda go nuts with noise reduction with their DVDs. Fingers crossed that this doesn't hurt their Blu-ray discs...that they don't make the same mistake Anchor Bay did. If the DNR is in the masters and wasn't an intermediate step, though, we might be out of luck.
