When will we start to see Weinstein movies in HD?

They all but disappeared from HD-DVD after Black Christmas and Harsh Times and I want The Mist on Blu instead of SD dvd. Any chance they may make an announcement soon or are we stuck with their movies on SD for a while still?

Also, are they the only studio to not commit to Blu yet?

Oh, there was no "all but" about it. :) Last releases were June '07. Not a peep since.

Genius Products, the Weinsteins' video arm, has hinted about getting more aggressive now that there's just one format standing, but there haven't been any announcements or firm commitments for TWC specifically.

Even if they were to announce something today, it'd be a while before any high-def discs wind up on store shelves. You'll probably see The Mist from another provider overseas for import or on HD PPV before there's a Blu-ray disc on these shores.

Dreamworks would be another.

There are plenty of smaller shops too -- Criterion, Blue Underground, Dark Sky, New Yorker, etc.

I've heard some crazy stuff about Weinstein on the topic of Blu-ray. Rumors were going around the time of the Warner decision(1/4/08) that Weinstein's exclusive contract with Toshiba had expired at the end of 2007 and that they were interested in releasing on Blu-ray...for a price. Apparently they thought releasing their stuff on BD was worth $100 million and asked the BDA to pay up. The BDA told them to take a hike...

I have a hard time believing that's true. I think their sales were just so abysmal that they decided not to bother with HDM for a while. They literally didn't have a single day-and-date title the entire time they released on HD DVD, and I'm sure that didn't help.

I'm thinking maybe 4th qtr this yr.... their's only a couple of titles I'd be interested in anyways.

I am still hoping to see Grindhouse on Blu-ray, if we are lucky.
