The reason being as it was a technically inferior spec which, ultimately, cost consumers big bucks.
However, the good thing to come out of that misadventure was Hollywood learned to avoid Format Wars in the future.
Guess you're not familiar with the HDR10/Dolby Vision/HDR10+/HLG fiasco.

I think this time you can blame that more on the electronic manufacturers.

Aside from the Criterion, Well Go, and early Lionsgate issues, I went through some of my early Blu-rays to find any other issues.

I found that Superman II The Richard Donner Cut had become completely unplayable. My copy of Face/Off also freezes after about 2/3 of the movie (I assume the 2nd layer). I was not able to find a Mould SID Code on either one.

I did some Google searching and found several reports of failed discs with both of those titles. I'm still waiting for WHV's response, and have not attempted to contact Paramount yet.

I think it's clear BD pressing quality control wasn't mastered when the format launched and rushed production schedules led to early lapses. It's not as bad as HD DVD's problems were but early BDs fail more often than you would expect.

I bought the first 30 for 30 BD set and now I can't play a single one of those discs.
