Gladiator and Braveheart on Cinemax HD on 03/01/2008!
 

Cinemax will be debuting 300 on March 1st and as a lead in, they will be showing Gladiator and Braveheart back to back before 300 on MAXHD. Gladiator starts at 3:15 pm CST and Braveheart follows afterwards.

We have no idea when either title will show up on Blu-ray, so this would make for a some good recordings on the DVR in the meantime.

I'm not holding my breath on Gladiator. It'll probably be another theatrical only BD despite the existence of an extended version. Pisses me off.

Yes, but with the extended version out there and the amount of disc space, they should put both on there with no problem. If Universal were smart, they could put both commentaries (Scott/Crowe and Scott solo) as well. Then add a second disc for all the extras (including the stuff on the Signature edition).

They've been showing an OAR version of Braveheart recently on HBO HD, but it looks like ass. Totally washed out colors and lots of debris. There's no way the new SCE DVD was sourced from that transfer, as the DVD actually looks better on color and sharpness in many cases. I hope they got the new one to show on Cinemax.

And hopefully they'll show Gladiator OAR as well.

I was going to mention this as well. I was actually excited to see something on HBO in OAR, but the transfer was almost unwatchable.

the audio on HBO-HD's broadcast of 'Braveheart' wasn't even in 5.1 Dolby Digital sound - another major flaw.

I didn't even notice. I look at a couple scenes briefly and deleted it from ym DVR.

If you want to see an HD-lite version and own the 360, there's a 720p rental on XBL. Its definitely better looking than the HBO broadcast. Although the new DVD looks pretty damn nice.

I watched Gladiator on CinemaxHD over the weekend. Absolutely stunning. One of the best looking movies I've ever seen on Satellite HD. The Blu-ray should be amazing!!!

Can you confirm the aspect ratio? If you have a widescreen display, did it have black bars still or did it fill the screen?

Aspect ration is 1:78. Still not bad at all for what it is.

bunkaroo, we're talking about a movie being aired on Cinemax, not a Blu-ray movie for sale. It looked incredible and is certainly a good gauge for how incredible the inevitable BD will look. Of course, if you can't even tune in due to the improper aspect ration . . . then OK.

Here's the thing. I have a library of 100's of movies. I get to see each one maybe once every few years. My all time favorites maybe once a year. I'm not going to waste a viewing of Gladiator, one of my favorites, watching it cropped.

That's just me. If you enjoy it that's cool.
