Didn't Hawke and Law do a commentary for this a while back?

Deftones 02-01-08 12:10 AM

So is this movie really all that? I've never seen it, but everyone seems to say it's very good. Along the lines of say...Dark City?

DonnachaOne 02-01-08 12:15 AM

That's actually not a bad cover, hough I have to say I love this teaser poster more - one of my favourites.

This movie is awesome! I will definitely buy it the day of release.

Peep 02-01-08 02:53 AM

I've been thinking SDVD on this one. Unless I can get a really good price.

Supermallet 02-01-08 05:14 AM

I love this movie. Easily one of the best sci-fi films of the 90's.

ThriceDamned 02-01-08 06:07 AM

I used to watch this movie compulsively. I've probably seen it 20 times or something. Haven't seen it now for about 5 years or close to, so this blu-ray is extremely welcome news to me.

Wow a studio cover that actually looks cool.

Waiting for the Blu Ray Superbit re-release...

It's a solid, oddly hypnotic movie. Some of it is a bit silly but it looks great and covers some cool concepts in our soon-to-be bioengineered future. Nothing like Dark City.

cardaway 02-01-08 09:43 AM

I love the movie and hope we don't have another case of a Superbit transfer being superior to the BD version. And even better, they waited long enough to put out an SE and I didn't end up buying the SD.

Dark City has Jennifer Connelly as the token woman eye candy

Gatacca only has Uma Thurman :thmbsdwn:

Clearly Dark City is much better than Gattaca.

But seriously, Gattaca is a much more serious and brainy while Dark City borders on being a super hero movie.

rexinnih 02-01-08 10:14 AM

It's been awhile since I've seen this but deserves a rewatch. Looking forward to seeing it again in hi-def.

GatorDeb 02-01-08 01:36 PM

You people made me rent the SD :D Can't believe I missed this movie as EH is one of my favorite actors (don't much care for JL) and this kind of human Sci-Fi is right up my alley :)

BSTNFAN 02-01-08 02:44 PM

This is why I come here! Most people I know have never heard of this movie and are surprised when I mention some of the people in it. I've had both the original OOP version and the superbit, but will definitely be upgrading. (Don't worry cardaway, I'll get Dark City as soon as it's in HD, as well).

There are a lot of things I like about the movie, mostly to do with its sense of atmosphere and style, but the script is filled with massive, gaping plot holes and patent absurdities that suggest the screenwriter (also the director) didn't think his concept all the way through.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if something like that happened now that BD is the High-def format.
Maybe we can get some Blu Ray Infinifilm re-releases as well. ;)

I really wouldnt be holding my breathe. Sony insiders have said that it would be very difficult to re-release most of the movies on BD, they are treating them so well at this point that it makes no sense to do another release.

Gattaca is a 106-minute movie. even if they encoded it at a maximum constant bit-rate of 48 Mb/s (for audio + video), that would only require 37GB of space (assuming my math is right). i can't see a "superbit" release gaining anything in terms of the presentation of the movie (though some might argue that was already the case with superbit DVDs too). certainly not enough to warrant waiting (though i suspect that comment was facetious).

Canis Firebrand 03-06-08 02:53 PM

My post in regards to lotsofdvds was more in jest. But at the same time, given the way that Sony handles things, you never know.
