Why? Their LoB DVD sucks; Sony's Blu-Ray is leaps and bounds better than the old Criterion in every department.

I'm sure the thinking is that, if Criterion were to get the rights back, they would put the proper time and effort into remastering the movie before releasing it on Blu-ray.

Criterion's Blu-rays for Tokyo Drifter and Branded to Kill are vastly better than their old DVD editions, for example.
