So ... How many of you have completely bailed on HD-DVD?

Another natural question to ask in the wake of this whole mess: How many of you have completely bailed on HD-DVD?

Personally, I decided to keep my A3, even though I had one last chance to return it yesterday. I will be keeping all 11 of my HD-DVDs, sending in for the mail-in-rebate offer, and looking to pick up cheap HD discs some time in the future. I don't have an upconverting player otherwise, so that's reason enough for me.

Qui Gon Jim 01-09-08 09:55 AM

I am keeping my player. I have a (comparatively) modest 21 title collection, and I think three of those titles (which I got from the mail-in offer) are going back to some store for credit. These three titles are not titles I would have bought on HDM, and I have them on DVD so I can live without them.

I probably won't buy any additional titles on HD DVD. I'm hoping that by the time I jump into BD, there will be some bargains to be had on some of the early titles. In the meantime, I can live on DVDs and my Netflix sub.

Doughboy 01-09-08 09:56 AM

I've got a XA2 and A3 player for HD-DVD and two 20GB PS3s for Blu-ray. I plan on keeping them all and I'll continue to buy HD-DVDs from Paramount and Universal until they switch over to Blu-ray.

XavierMike 01-09-08 10:00 AM

I have both. I have an A1 with 25 titles. I'm going to keep them, but i won't buy anymore HD DVD's.

Tracer Bullet 01-09-08 10:02 AM

I will keep my player and discs and will continue to buy titles that interest me. This isn't a VHS situation where the media will eventually wear out.

seltzer77 01-09-08 10:03 AM

I had an A3 and the Xbox add on. Over the weekend I traded in my Xbox add on, along with a few unopened hd movies. I only had about 15 or so movies, and now have 10 or so. The A3 is still great to use to upconvert.

I took all of my credit and such that I got from trade ins, and got myself a 40gb PS3. So, I guess technically I'm format neutral now, although I don't plan on buying any more HD discs...

raven56706 01-09-08 10:07 AM

i am on the fence... i mean i support hd-dvd because the players are much cheaper then BR but it appears more and more that they lost.... i might just must have titles for universal and paramount but blu ray might be the winner

plus, its starting to look like other services might knock these guys off

how much did you get for the add-on?

Vipper II 01-09-08 10:08 AM

My impatient nature will cause me to continue to buy titles on HD DVD. If I see a title I like that's HD DVD-exclusive, why wait?

Gizmo 01-09-08 10:16 AM

I have an XA1 and an A3 and will continue to purchase HD DVD titles until there are no more. I will, however, be purchasing all Day and Date WB titles in Blu.

Looking forward to the HD DVD clearance as I want an XA2 and some cheap movies.

GogoTheMimic 01-09-08 10:17 AM

I'll still buy Universal and Paramount titles but I'll probably go neutral just like I planned on doing sometime this year. Just going to happen a bit sooner than I had expected. I've still got over 20 HD DVDs and they aren't going anywhere. :D

buckee1 01-09-08 10:25 AM

With 120 titles plus & 2 HD players, I am definately going down wih the ship!

El Talon Del Monstruo 01-09-08 10:28 AM

I support HD and will continue to purchase HD titles until I can afford a Blu player. At that time I will put my support (largely) into Blu

Bill Geiger 01-09-08 10:38 AM

I sold my HD player and all but 4 titles (so far.)

Mr. Cinema 01-09-08 10:38 AM

I have supported HD DVD since day 1 and that support ended on 1/4/08. All studios will be releasing on BD in 2008, so there's no need for me to buy anymore HD DVD titles.

kvrdave 01-09-08 10:50 AM

I supported both and will continue to buy HD-DVDs. Why isn't that an option?

That's my story too. Sure, I could buy more Paramount/Universal titles on HD DVD, but why bother? By the end of the year, all of those titles will be either available or in the pipeline for Blu-ray. I'm not so impatient that I can't wait a few months for those few titles.

bunkaroo 01-09-08 10:53 AM

I went with option B, kickin' your ass and collecting $200, erm, sorry, wrong train of thought. :)

I supported both but I will no longer buy HD DVD. The Pianist was my last. I wanted Zodiac but I can wait for Paramount to make a decision. I'll be renting all forthcoming Uni discs (not that there are many announced).

Pretty sad that even before last Friday's news, Uni only had 2 non-combo reissues, Elizabeth: TGE and Fletch on the schedule after 1/8.

RockyMtnBri 01-09-08 10:59 AM

Zodiac was my last HD DVD purchase. I have the A2 in a different room than my PS3, so it still works for the titles I have, plus it'll upconvert my regular DVDs.

I'm with RoboDad - I'll wait until the other titles I want come out on Blu-Ray.

I think Gamestop gave me $60 credit for it...

mdc3000 01-09-08 11:05 AM

I thought I'd be buying select titles on HD DVD for a while, but I actually just went ahead and cancelled my orders for Zodiac and Into the Wild... I'll rent them in the meantime and wait for the blu-ray versions... it's hard to spend the money knowing I will probably regret it later....

Gdrlv 01-09-08 11:06 AM

I've got a PS3 and the 360 add on, with about 50 Blu-ray discs and about 15 HD DVDs. No more HD DVDs for me.

TheMovieman 01-09-08 11:10 AM

Unless there's a big clearance on HD-DVDs (ie 75% off), I'm done buying. However, I am keeping what I have since I've already spent the money and won't see anywhere near what I paid. Also, outside of a couple of combo discs I won't replacing them with their BR counterparts.

I guess it falls under "going down with the HD-DVD ship".

Jericho 01-09-08 11:21 AM

I'll continue to buy HD DVDs. For the same reason I bought an HD DVD player to begin with. I want to watch it all: WB, Universal, Disney, etc... And I'm willing to pay for it right now. The cost will be no different down the road, and it's not like I won't have other HD DVD titles.
