Is WB finally gonna catch up thier Blu-ray catalog now?

Here is a list of some Warner Bros. movies that are available on HD DVD but not yet on Blu-ray.

Adventures of Robin Hood
V for Vendetta
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Charlie and the Chocolate factory
Mutiny on the Bounty
Forbidden Planet
Batman Begins
Constantine
Matrix trilogy

Those are the ones I can think of. Since Warner wont be spending money to produce HD DVDs soon. I think we should demand that these titles become available as soon as possible. Oh yeah for those selling thier HD DVDs... Dont sell Pan's Labyrinth. New Line's cease of HD DVD support is immediate and this title will be thier one and only release. Also, when whatever stock of the title is already produced is gone, they wont make it anymore. This title will be worth alot of money in a few months to collectors, so if you've got it.. Keep it!

Not until 1.1 players are more mainstream...maybe 3-6 months...maybe?

Drexl 01-08-08 11:12 PM

Mutiny on the Bounty sold something like 650 copies. I think that and some of the other low-selling titles (classics :() could take a while.

Forbidden Planet was like 400....

True_Story1011 01-09-08 12:49 AM

I was one of the 400 people who purchased this title.^

The thing you really should look out for it when these titles go out of print on any format. As the fan/consumer base continues to increase there will be no titles avaliable on either format.

So I guess certain titles will always be desireable.

abintra 01-09-08 12:51 AM

Is there a sales amount list somewhere? 400-650 copies.. yikes.

QuePaso 01-09-08 02:26 AM

They will all be out this year along with plenty more awesome Catalog movies. The blu-ray insiders said that warner was very happy with how Blade Runner sold on blu-ray and were especially impressed with how Close Encounters of the Third Kind sold. I have never seen Forbidden Planet and it will be a blind buy for me on blu-ray when it hits.

Total, unconfirmable, biased speculation.

WB has made NO announcements other than the intent to publish BD titles and move away from HD DVD.

These are the same Blu-Ray insiders who have never been wrong with their predictions, and predicted this entire warner thing 2+ months ago. I think i'll trust their words as more then speculation, however, you are welcome to deny it all you'd like.

RockyMtnBri 01-09-08 07:48 AM

Don't forget Casablanca! I only have three Warner HD DVDs (Batman Begins, V for Vendetta, and Forbidden Planet) myself.

Qui Gon Jim 01-09-08 08:16 AM

You cited no sources.

Predicting that some of these back catalog titles will come out is like predicting that the sun will rise. Duh.

What would have happened if HD DVD had won the services of Fox and WB? You, and your "insiders" would have slinked away, never to be heard from again. You take credit for guessing and being right. Soothsayers, you are not.

Good point. Don't let others knock you down, especially when they are notorious for doing the same thing.

It's pretty obvious people at Warner have loose lips and the people they talk to spread the word.

I've also seen them mention that a Lethal Weapon boxset is in the works.

Batman Begins is supposed to drop during The Dark Knight's theatrical debut. The other IME discs will follow once more 1.1 players are released. This according to DobyBlue.

Superman Returns with TrueHD audio will start hitting stores once they have sold through the older release.

Giles 01-09-08 09:00 AM

'Grand Prix' is another HD-DVD WB only release

any chance 'Goblet of Fire' or 'Order of the Phoenix' will get rereleased and retweaked so that the Blu-ray will have the IME features?

Several people have showed (check AVS for the reports if they are still there) that Close Encounters sold 8k-9k copies...to a base of 3.5+ Blu-ray owners. Is that a success now?

PixyJunket 01-09-08 10:46 AM

Batman Begins and Matrix (no trilogy) please.

$ <- This is for Warner Bros. Please take it!

They should do a single-disc release of CE3K and price it like all catalog titles. Then it will move some copies.

On a similar note, I wonder how many copies Blade Runner moved? I thinking probably much more as it was a little less expensive and a higher profile release.

mdc3000 01-09-08 11:13 AM

I'm sure Blade Runner outsold Close Encounters...it was cheaper and had more content... I bought both but I think the majority of people who would have bought Close Encounters were put off by the pricing.

I hope Warner catches up on their blu-ray releases...I'll probably sell off my Matrix and Batman HD DVDs since those are sure things for 2008 and I probably won't be watching them again until a BD release would be available anyhow...best to get some cash for them while it's available.

For someone who's signature indicates that you're format neutral, you've been comically bitter since WB made its announcement. Chill out.

All I know is that it will be a happy day when I can watch "the goonies" on blu-ray :P

Obviously, there is no reason to delay the non-IME HD-DVD exclusive titles, except for what I assume is them waiting for the installed base to increase. I can't imagine there is any future tie-in for Casablanca, other than maybe by 2012 for the film's 70th Anniversary.

I think they will at some point, but I'm guessing they'll wait until the last 2 films are on BD. Then they can release a deluxe set of all of 'em with IME.

I just hope the PQ is "good enough"... :)

This has been on HDnet this month, and truth be told, it doesn't look a whole lot better than the upconverted DVD, but I think that says more about how good the DVD was.
