I have already come to accept our Blu HDM overlords, picked up the Panasonic BD30 on Sunday.
By the way for those who are going to jump in, keep an eye on your mailbox because I got some BB coupons today. Now I gotta go through the hassle to get the 10% back on my player this weekend. |

You never really know with BB. Their stance changes on stuff like this by the hour. It really all depends on who is working and how reasonable (I know) that person is. Fortunately at the store that I frequent the managers are actually really good about taking care of situations like this and keeping the customer happy. |
I would love to buy a second Blu-ray player but the prices really need to come down. Back before xmas, when I bought a second HD DVD player it was easy to do so because the player came with 5 free movies right away and the player was less than two hundred dollars. It was also easy because 3 of the five free movies were Kubrick titles. But to drop 400 dollars for the most logical choice of blu-ray players (the ps3) is kinda overkill. I already have a ps3 in the living room and having one in the bedroom woudn't make it too functional being that you cant transfer game saves from one machine to another. Anyways, it would take a decent standalone blu-ray player like the Sony or Samsung models to be priced not more than $250 to get me to bite. Best Buy has a deal where you can pick 5 free from the store when you buy your blu-ray, which does not include the PS3, but $400 is too much.

I guess someone needs to start a second thread titled "Who will not own a Blu-Ray player in the next month?" so they can fill it up.
If I can find a good price on a 60 gig PS3 then I might jump. I've only had my HD DVD player since late October(thank you BB Heroes for free special!) so I didn't have a huge collection of HD DVDs(just over 20).
I know I'll eventually get one with Metal Gear coming out and especially now that HD DVD is pretty much dead but I'm not in that big of a hurry. |

Not till they're cheaper.
Hey Gizmo...I have a 60gb for sale...you know...the one that plays SACD's...it say's so on the box...real talk....please believe...
I've been sitting on the fence, enjoying a collection of primitive SD discs, and I don't intend to change anytime soon. From everything I've read, Blu-Ray still seems like an unfinished product that is better at delivering promiseware than real features. Let me know when service pack 2 (or whatever equivalent designation they are calling it) is available.
Definitely not. I chose HD-DVD primarily because of price and won't consider Blu until prices drop considerably.
It is still too soon.
Players will only get better and less expensive, media will only become more plentiful and less expensive. |

I've had one since last summer.
I'll probably add one to my guest room now that it looks like we have a winner. I already have Blu & HD-DVD in almost every room, but I doubt I'll add any more HD-DVD players at this point.
I am going to wait for a dual format player that supports the new BD spec 2.0. [I'm looking at you Toshiba]. I don't want a PS3.
Yes. I will probably buy it this week.
My only reason for wanting to get a Blu-Ray player (read: PS3) this soon is because I figure more affordable players from the top tier manufacturers are probably a couple of years away. In the meantime, there will be (and there already are) movies that I want to buy, but I don't want to buy them now on DVD knowing that a couple years down the road I will just end up wanting them on Blu-Ray. Hence, getting a PS3 now (so that I can enjoy those films on Blu-Ray right away) is probably the most fiscally sound thing I can do ... weird.
Is anyone else thinking along these lines? |
Not for me. I'll get a BR player once the price point hits $200. It has to happen if they want to get players in homes that don't want a PS3. I'm not much of a gamer so unless the allure of GTA4 can get me to buy one I don't see it happening. I'd like to have a player but the way prices are dropping on new tech these days I'd be a fool to pay anything over $250 for one right now. I can wait.
Ditto to no. Waiting for either a good combo player or for the PS3 to drop whichever comes first. I have my A3 as my main player to use until then...no huge rush.
I'd say no, not in the next month. I want to wait until there is a nice, inexpensive player at least 1.1 capable. Maybe this year some time.
Not in the next month. I'll probably wait till the end of the year and see what happens.
