Bonnie & Clyde

Collateral (this was mentioned for '07, I think this will be part of Paramount's more aggressive '08 lineup)
Batman ((maybe these two when the BDK is released on HDM))
Batman Returns
Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Theatrical Versions
Scarface?
United 93?
Gladiator?
Braveheart?
The Green Mile?
The Shawshank Redemption?
L.A. Confidential? (where's that Special Edition that was promised?)

Will we get any Hitchcock? Psycho, Vertigo, The Birds? Classic Monsters? Frankenstein, Dracula?

BLU-RAY
Alien ((depending on the release of AVP:R))
Aliens

Crimson Tide
The Rock
Master and Commander (very high on my list. the dvd contained one of the best audio soundtracks I've ever heard. DTS HD MA should be amazing.)
Independence Day
No Country for Old Men
Lawrence of Arabia
Bridge on the River Kwai

Will Disney give us a nice 10th Anniversary Armageddon disc with PCM audio?

Will we get some 007 movies?

Will Fox give us Xmen 1 and 2?

I dont want to sound like a ass monkey on couple of these titles... But I'll believe it when I see it.

I guess the same could be said about all the titles above though. :(

Not much for me:

Beowulf
Appleseed: Ex Machina

Prior to the release date. I don't have a specific day at the moment, though.

I need to decide with which format to go with now that i finally got a hdtv. dont know if i should go blu ray or hd. Probably will go with Blu ray since i can get the ps3 which would also serve as a blu ray player. I could also just get the PS3 for blu ray and get an inexpensive HD player. Does anyone in here know a good inexpensive HD player I could get or even a inexpensive blu ray thats not a ps3.

Unless you know for a fact you won't be trying to take full advantage of next-gen audio on Blu-Ray, stay away from the BDP-S300. Sony seems reluctant to give it the same audio support its other machines enjoy. Sure it's $100 cheaper than a PS3, but for $100 more, with the PS3 you get Profile 1.1 compliance (and likely 2.0 in the future), next-gen audio support, not to mention a pretty decent gaming machine.

I truly believe the PS3 is the best bet for Blu right now.

On the HD front, your options are Toshiba and rebadged Toshiba.

A3's can be had for $200, and at the very least are good upconverting players, so it's really not a huge risk.

^Thanks for the info. I figured the ps3 would be the best bet for blu ray

That's a Fox title so likely it won't be released on Blu-ray. I'll buy either the DVD or the Blu-ray.

Anybody know any updates as to what is planned for Smallville Seasons 1-4? I remember hearing they were on WB's agenda but I havn't kept up to date with news lately. These are what I am really waiting for!

wakwak007 01-01-08 05:56 PM

as a HD-DVD supporter I'm looking forward to Zodiac DC... of course I am hoping that some other titles will pop up in other countries that are HD are well.;)

mrowley 01-01-08 06:34 PM

I agree that the selection so far announced is pretty pathetic.
Very few "must buys" for me.

Where's Lawrence?

Deftones 01-01-08 06:36 PM

Nothing specifically from that list. More looking forward to being able to enjoy all movies now, rather than just the selection on one side.

Juno was mentioned at that High Def 2.0 conference about a month ago, the one where Disney said Finding Nemo was coming. It's just too soon for them to officially announce it.

In addition to what has been said, I'm hoping for New Line to start releasing some catalog titles. I suspect some of their more popular ones may have to be redone though, as the transfers are several years old (going by the last DVD releases). I wonder if that is why they didn't get into HD sooner.

BEOWULF!

APPLESEED!

THE ROCK!

CON AIR!

3:10 To Yuma!

Paul_SD 01-02-08 07:03 AM

from the list of what's been announced, there's only a few I'm really interested in;
Zodiac (blind buy)
The New Frontier (blind buy)
Bonnie And Clyde (semi blind buy)
Adventures Of Baron Munchausen (upgrade)
Michael Clayton (blind buy)

in addition, I wish I had pre-ordered Run Lola, Run while I still had my extra 10% discount, as I'm finally developing an interest in seeing that again (after like 6 years). Guess I'll just wait for a summer BOGO now.

Hopefully some decent classics make it out (like Wizard Of Oz or Ben Hur, or things of that caliber). 2007 was a decent year, but I still felt a little undernourished in that area.

Yavin 01-02-08 08:36 AM

I just saw the Iron Man trailer on the Transformers HD-DVD and was reminded that this is a Paramount release. I'm definitely looking forward to getting Iron Man and The Dark Knight on HD-DVD. Hopefully these will be out by 4th Quarter '08.
