How bad would it be for the equipment to stack a HD and BD player?

I have limited entertainment center room and was going to pick up an HD-DVD player to go along with my BD player.. but I'd probably have to stack the HD player on top of the blu-ray player. How bad would that be for the equipment?

Thanks :)

I don't know, but I do have my PS3 on top of my A2. However, the A2 has a larger footprint than the PS3, so it's not covering the whole top. Plus, of course only one gets used at a time, which I think is a factor in it being safe. I probably wouldn't stack two players of equal size, but that's just me.

It'll be fine.

If you BR player is a PS3, I would be concerned on how it vents(back and top). If thats an enclosed(3 sides) entertainment center, I would be very concerend. I had my ps3 sitting ontop of my dvr and After about 4 hours of play, I check the temp of my dvr and it climbed from 33c to 43c.

So I pulled the PS3 out of there. If the back of your entertainment center is open, I don't think it will be a big problem.

I'd be really wary about doing that!

It could start a war.

He's probably not talking about the PS3, since he said he was going to put the HD DVD player on top of the BD player. I doubt anyone would try to put something on top of the PS3. I believe that's a reason they made it curved on top in the first place.

I agree no problems. I have my BD-P1000 and A2 stacked. DVR's are another ball game. They run very hot and a lot of them have their vents on top. All of DTV's do. It would be very very bad to stack something on top of a DVR. You would probably overheat the unit in no time at all.

I currently have my Toshiba A3 stacked on top of my Panasonic Blu-ray player and I haven't had any problems nor do I anticipate having any.

My A2 is sitting on top of my BDP-S1.

The only thing you need to worry about is the space above the top unit, and the clearance in the back. If very little space is left (less than 1 inch in clearance) you might have potential over-heating problems.

My XA1 hooked up with my PS3 and now the PS3 is pregnant. I see a bump at the top of the PS3...oh boy.

Bacon 12-29-07 02:07 PM

my Blu Ray player is on top of my HD DVD with no problems

GreenMonkey 12-29-07 02:12 PM

I have the Wii on the vertical stand on top of my A2. It's fine. Just don't block off any air vents. I wouldn't try it on anything with a hard drive (like a game console or a DVR).

mzupeman2 12-29-07 02:47 PM

Yeah, as said, dont' block air vents, which on top of these units, you most likely won't. The metallic casing is actually very strong on these players so, have at it!

What would happen if they decided to have sex? j/k

Heat buildup is bad for your equipment. Avoid it if you can.

You'd have the LG or Samsung dual format player

bunkaroo 12-29-07 06:14 PM

I have my cable box on top of my BDP-S1 which hasn't been a problem. Then again the BDP-S1 is built like a tank.

I also have my Oppo on top of my HD-A20 - again no issues - the Oppo is pretty light.

Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.

Somebody should start a poll to find out which format is "on top". :p
