The Untouchables. Road Warrior and Blade Runner are up there. The opening scene with De Niro, and the scene with Coster and Connery in the church blew me away. Glad I grabbed this on BD before I lost my chance. You gotta expect a Hollywood blockbuster from last summer to look great, but when you see a movie for the first time in HD after years of shit VHS transfers it's like seeing it for the first time. That's the beauty of BD for me.

People need their eyes checked here.
I've watched every single one of these titles on a brand new 24" 720p LCD from 10' back and NONE of them look all that much better than the DVD.

Sounds like user name Paul_HD was taken and someone is bitter about it.

You can add Brotherhood of the Wolf to this list as one that blows away the SD versions...

It's crisp and bright, the grain is reduced greatly, (obviously) more detail, and the colors are much more balanced in the darker sections. Plus, it's the 'director's cut', even though the box lists the wrong running time and such. Great all around!

And not that it was a film that required much of an upgrade, since it's a comedy, but the HD version of Beerfest, despite the missing funny menu from the SD release, is quite well done. V for Vendetta is quite good as well, but the SD disc was so damn good that the difference is less pronounced, despite the HD being a fantastic disc.

Is that disc DTS audio only?

Yes. And the box also incorrectly lists an English 5.1 DTS track as well, which it does not have. French DTS and DTS HD only, with English Subs.

Really, whoever did the packaging should be fired...it's got more errors on one box than I have ever seen before.

Spider-Man 12-30-07 01:48 PM

V for Vendetta, Hulk, Matrix, Spider-Man 2-3, Close Encounters, Hellboy.

I disagree with both of these, IMO they show nice improvement over the SD counterpart when projected onto a big screen. Traffic is an upconvert & as such should be at the head of the least impressive list.

Where can you get Brotherhood of the Wolf HD-DVD? Also, is it all-region? (or at least playable on US players)

Tony at xploitedcinema.com has them avaliable.

And this title plays on every HD DVD player because there is no region coding on HD players.

I just wish it had an audio track other than DTS, seeing as how I have no current surround sound system.

MOst of the HD disks I have seen are not significant improvements over standard DVD.
However Excalibur is a BIG exception. Great use of colors on the HD-DVD version. Looks many times better thanthe weak Standard edition DVD.
