I am in the same boat as you. With the Amazon, Fry's electronics, and PS3 deal I purchased over 65 (Blu-
ray & HD DVD) movies in th past 10 days. Thank the Lord I have 11 days off at the end of December.

I'd have to say that this was one of the better blackfriday/saturday deals. One of the best I've ever ran into. I mean even if they were crap titles and most of them were. You can still throw them up on ebay for a quick buck so it's really not bad @ all.

I just got home a few minutes ago. I actually made it to Wal-Mart by just after 6:30 this morning. I first went over to the Blu-Ray display. I saw that it appeared that it had been undisturbed since yesterday evening, which I took to be a good sign. I picked up the ten movies and then went to find someone to ask where I needed to wait in line. The employee I found told me that they didn't have any PS3s, that they had sold them all yesterday. He also stated that the other local store was sold out as well. At that point, I went back to the display and put the movies back. Just as I was about to walk away, the same employee came over to tell me that he had in fact been wrong and they still had 2 systems left. I gathered up the movies once more and went back to the register and waited until 8:00. No one else showed up for the deal until about 7:45.

I ended up with:
Die Hard 1-4
Casino Royale
Apocalypto
Spiderman 3
Rescue Dawn
28 Weeks Later
Pirates of the Carribean 2 (They had the first movie, but I passed on it because it is one of the choices for the 5 free by mail.)

Rescue Dawn appears to be a popular choice. Is it any good?

It's a decent movie. It has a little drag in the middle but the ending is definitely exciting. I'd rent it first then make up your mind. Bale is a phenomenal and i'd say is quite overdue for an oscar nod. If you've appreciated what he's done in the past, I'd definitely add it to the list!

I really want to see Rescue Dawn. Heard much good stuff about it on NPR when it was released and never got into the theater.

Including his Japanese releases, I think Christian Bale must be the most represented actor on both HD formats. I wonder if he is purple?

At about noon today I went to Walmart... they had multiple 80gig PS3's in stock... evidently some guy just before me asked about this deal, and they were "checking into it"... sounds like there wasn't any rush early this AM... as I was waiting for these idiots to "confirm the deal" which is on their own company friggin' website and have some manager type OK the 10 free discs... I started looking through the BluRay discs they had to offer, and couldn't find more than 4 or 5 that I'd be remotely interested in... therefore I left. I will purchase a 40gig PS3 from sonystyle.com for $299 with Spiderman 3 + 5 MIR, and an extra controller, and use that additional $200 bucks to buy movies in any format that I actually would want to see.

I got there this morning at about 5 till 7:00. No problem. I could have walked in at 8:00. They had three. One other very young lady showed up at 7:30 to stand in line (of two) with me. She didn't even know about the 10 free movies, she was just an employee that knew a few PS3's had come in. At 8:00 while we were checking out, a curious older gentlemen (50+ish) kept looking at what we were doing. So, we tried to explain it to him. He seemed very interested, but had to fetch his wife for approval . Then, when we left at about 8:10, he and his wife were calling their adult kids at home to have them tell them whether it was a good deal or not. No one else was there to scoop up that last one. I probably should have gone back in and tried to get it for a second one, but I like for others to get a get deal too.

There were still 2 PS3s at the west Lansing Wal-Mart.

There were bunches of BR discs, but I didn't look at the titles.

I am not sure how long the deal is good for.

I was in my WM at around 1:00 this afternoon because I needed a mop and some light bulbs.

Out of cusiosity, I decided to check out the PS3 deal. There was no rush or hubub to be seen. They had three 80gb units securely behind glass. I asked the kid working there, he said, "Yup, any 10 BDs under $30".

They did have a pretty good selection of BDs...maybe 30-40 different titles. I tried to gather up 10 I really liked, but I just couldn't make it work. I decided to wait for a SAP at around $300....maybe next year.

At $500, it didn't seem like there was much interest in this deal at all.

I also didn't see a single HD DVD player or disc. This, from a store that sold 30 A2s in 1 hour a few weeks ago. It seems that WM or Toshiba has done a poor job following-up with the initial burst of interest in HD DVD.

Sony BDP Review

I have a Toshiba XA2 for HD DVD, and I'm looking for comparable quality....1080p, TrueHD, DTS-MA HD, etc.

After posting in this thread this morning, I decided to call the closest WalMart (20 miles or so) on a whim. Sure enough, they had some left. So I got there about 11:00. They had some Blu-Ray movies on an endcap, but were very picked over. I think if I had taken one of everything they had in stock, I would have gotten exactly 10. And that would have been 4 or 5 that I really had no interest in.

So, I asked the guy at the electronics desk if they had any other Blu-Ray in stock, or if they were all on that endcap. He walked me over to a cardboard display next to the desk full of choices. I honestly could have walked out of there with 20 without having to "settle" for any to fill out the 10. I had about 5 in my hand that I had to choose from to get # 10. Keep in mind, I have a 7 year old (that's getting the PS3 from Santa).

I ended up with:
Die Hard 1-4 (double dip on 1-3)
Spiderman 3 (didn't own yet - ANY format)
Oceans 13 (didn't own yet - ANY format)
We are Marshall (didn't own yet - ANY format)
Night at the Museum (didn't own yet - ANY format)
Surf's Up (didn't own yet - ANY format)
Pirates - Curse (double dip)

I passed on the other Pirates movie since I can get that in the free 5.

The other ones I had to pass on, but had seriously considered:

Terminator (own DVD)
Terminator 2 (own DVD)
Resevoir Dogs
The Fifth Element (own DVD)
300
Blood Diamond
X-Men Last Stand
Fantastic Four (Silver Surfer)
Santa Claus 3 (own DVD)
Cars (own DVD and already bought Blu-Ray from Amazon with Ratatouille for $37)
Ratatouille (own DVD and already bought Blu-Ray from Amazon with Cars for $37)

Then I drove across the street and returned a PS3 to Best Buy. Not only did I get the 10 free movies from WalMart, the extended warranty was $50 cheaper.

Thanks to all those above for posting your luck this morning to give me the courage to check.

Oh yeah, my $79 Wii is still to come...

For anyone in the Twin Cities - Shakopee still had 2 more as of about 11:30 am.

Is this model eligible for the choice of the Sixaxis wireless controller or Heavenly Sword game in addition to the $50 rebate? I noticed Hastings had that deal going on for the 60GB and was curious if it was exclusive to them or that particular model. Those additional bonuses would be just enough for me to justify pulling the trigger on this deal assuming they're still in stock here...and I'd bet someone's left nut they are.

The Wal-Mart I went to near Houston at about 2:00 PM had a bunch of 80gb PS3s and quite a few BR movies--probably 25-30 to choose from. I asked the cashier if they had sold a lot of them and she said there had been absolutely "no interest." I guess $499 is still too much for the average consumer even with 10 free movies.

Your choices vs. left behind was pretty much perfect. Terminator 1 and 2 have so-so transfers and the others have been available pretty cheap in the past few weeks. If you have a Fry's be sure to check them out as several of he Fox titles are $10-$14 each.

OK here is what you need to do if they did not have any.

Contact the Department of Weights and Measure (This is what it is called in AZ) and let them know what happened. They will launch an investigation and call you back. This is what I do when a store says they will have a minimum of XYZ and they don't. Here in AZ they take it seriously and you will prevail. Power to the People!

i went by another WM - this one had the 14.96 movies in a cardboard sleeve by the register (much in the same way they displayed the 14.96 HD DVD movies a couple of weeks back). none of the sale movies were in the racks with the other BR / HD movies.

Why is everyone surprised there were no lines for this deal? It wasn't advertised in print. These web only deals are the dumbest idea ever. Especially for a $500 product. This should have been right on the front page of the Thursday ad. Plus, the average Wal-Mart shopper is not going to spend $500 on a single item for Christmas or anytime, IMO. If Sony really wanted to push this deal they should have made it available at BB and CC as well.
