HD/Blu Ray Owners:Are you ordering more HD/Blu Ray DVDs from different countries now?

Due to No Region coding, are people now ordering more international HD/Blu Ray DVDs online from other countries, especially if you didn't own a multi-region DVD player before you owned an HD/Blu Ray one? First, i'm assuming other countries have Hollywood movies on HD/Blu Ray not available in USA yet. And second, are you now checking out more foreign HD/Blu Ray titles from those different countries?

Thanks to a certain someone sitting in a big white house, the US dollar is so weak now that I can't afford to order stuff from overseas.

Yes, I've ordered Equilibrium, The Machinist, The Pianist, La Haine, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It's actually the main reason why bought HD-DVD first. I also have Silent Hill and Arizona Dream. Silent Hill is a definitive improvement over the blu-ray release and Arizona Dream has never even been released here on DVD.

Just an import of The Graduate. I'd rather buy a movie on Blu-ray here for $10-$15 then spend $40+ just to import it so its in a red case. However if the title is not available on either format I will import it. The Graduate is one I wanted to buy on Blu-ray here, but Fox/MGM decided to cancel/delay all of their titles back in March of this year so I imported it.

No; I love foreign films, but the prices are astronomical. The one I would have bitten on would have been Brotherhood of the Wolf (one of my fave films), but I read the transfer is poor and it has no Eng. subs (despite what the cover claims)...If Hero or Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon come out, or if there's a good House of Flying Daggers high-def transfer, then I'd certainly consider those...

I have Brotherhood of the Wolf. There are english subs and the transfer is kind of a mixed bag. Some scenes are stunning and rank up there with the best on the format while other scenes are full of noise. I would call it a no-brainer as it's huge leap in quality over the DVD releases.

I went region free ages ago on SD and my overseas BLU/HD purchases are increasing as well. To date I've purchsed: Crimson Tide Blu, Air Force One BlU, BrotherHood Of The WOlf HD, Running Scared HD, Mr. & Mrs. Smith HD, The Fog(orig) HD and a bunch of other titles I can't remember right now. It Definately sucks about the current conversion rates, thankfully there's nothing I can see on the horizon that won't be a domestic relelase.

I've gotten a lot of imports. My favorites are Starship Troopers BD and The Island BD from the UK. A great site for checking region free releases on Blu-ray is

I always stayed away from imports from Europe due to the whole PAL speed up thing.

Now that it's not an issue for both formats, I import titles (or buy imports from domestic dealers) whenever it suits my needs.

I'm format neutral so I don't have to buy domestic exclusives on import, but I happily buy those films that are not yet available domestically on either format.

I'm hoping the impending US releases of films like The Pianist, Crimson Tide, The Rock, etc., will not be better in terms of PQ than their respective imports.

Brotherhood of the Wolf has English subtitles. It does not have an English dub.

I've done alot of trading and purchasing from members.

Enemy at the Gate
Equlibrium
The Fog
Elephant Man
Running Scared

I've not had a single problem with any of them.

I've only bought one import (a Japanese BD of The Producers), and that may be the only one I ever get. With both formats, most titles should get released here at some point anyway. The Rock was tempting, but I figured it would be here soon enough.

I may have to look into The Graduate though. That totally does not fit Fox's demographics for release, so if they don't start putting out more variety in the new year I would consider the import.

I imported on SD for some must-have titles but so far there haven't been too many HD titles I've really wanted, expect for King Kong (1976) and possibly Silent Hill (although I've heard the transfer is a mixed bag).

I watched a few scenes of Silent Hill and the transfer was one of the nicest I've ever seen.

The Graduate import looks awesome. After announcing and delaying it in May, I don't think Fox (MGM) will be releasing this one anytime soon as they just released the new SD version a few months back.
