TV: Shot in HD but released only standard-def
Is there any rhyme or reason as to which shows that are obviously shot in HD get released on HD/BR and why most only get an SD release?
I'm a huge fan of The Office (US) and watch it on NBC-HD. I'm very tempted to get the first couple seasons and rewatch them, but I know I'll be kicking myself if they ever get released in high def. |
Well, just as with movies, you can't expect everything to get released in HD now. The market is still developing and they have to choose a limited number of shows to release.
Demographics are a big factor - the young males that buy HD tend to want action and sci-fi. That's why you see shows like Smallville and Heroes getting released but not The Office. Unfortunately, there seems to be an attitude that it doesn't matter if comedies are in HD. |
