Ocean's Thirteen, negative buzz?

From what I've been told, the German import was quite lacking in the PQ department.

Casino looks fantastic, I'm wondering if Soderbergh's filtering and grain effects are the main detraction?

The Bus 11-07-07 08:44 AM

I've preordered the set. When I get it, I'll let you know if it looked like it did in theatres. It definitely looked a bit different.

PopcornTreeCt 11-07-07 09:46 AM

I have the set pre-ordered too. I hope they look good, either way I never saw it.

TheMovieman 11-07-07 10:03 AM

Yep, I pre-ordered the trilogy on Amazon but hopefully there are no issues. Looking forward to watching them in HD...

Josh Z 11-07-07 12:26 PM

The movie was grainy as hell in theaters, especially the opening scene. I expect that's what people are responding to.

bookcase3 11-08-07 08:39 AM

It's too bad you have to buy the trilogy to get Ocean's 11 because it's a classic (and I thought 12 was awful). Of course, I suppose it's less expensive than getting them separately and I could always sell 12. I wonder why Deep Discount doesn't offer the trilogy on their site -- the upcoming sale would be the perfect time to grab it.

Does anyone know exactly what the exclusive features are? Is there anything new included on O11?

Mr. Cinema 11-10-07 10:02 PM

Very disappointing that none of these will have lossless audio. I thought Warner had done a pretty good job of including lossless with most of their recent titles, but one of their $100 million grossers doesn't get it.

HD Digest lists deleted scenes as a HD exclusive feature, but I'm not sure if that's for all of them or just part 3.

mdc3000 11-11-07 08:38 AM

OK, I've got Ocean's Thirteen. It's Dolby Digital Plus. Looked and sounded fine to me (grainy but that's how it was shot). The HD exclusive features for 13 are a commentary with Soderbergh and the writers and a Master of the Heist: Recalling real life sophisticated heists featurette.

The additional scenes are on the SD disc as well, but on the HD side they are presented in HD. I haven't had a chance to watch the special features but I thought Warner did a great job with the presentation of the flick.

MBoyd 11-11-07 09:19 AM

34.99 at Best Buy this week. Damn is that correct?

Interestingly, I believe that Master of the Heist is an "exclusive" extra disc that comes with the SD version at Target this week.

Unfortunately, yes. Their website has the list price at $39.99, which is INCORRECT. Warner priced both versions with a $35.99 list price.

aggressivemx 11-11-07 02:10 PM

you can usually pick it up for 27.99 at target or walmart. so do a price match

pjflyer 11-11-07 02:16 PM

You can get the box set for around $44 at ddd/dvdplanet on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, DVD Planet has raised their price to $83.15, and DD is $61.48, so the cheapest you could pay is $49 and some change.

I'm curious if anyone has seen the packaging yet? Is it simply a slipcase over the three individual cases, or something more elaborate?

Mr. Cinema 11-11-07 07:39 PM

Let's all give a round of applause to DVD Planet for selling the Ocean's boxset above the retail list price of $79.99. Well done.

DVD Polizei 11-11-07 09:07 PM

Clap.

This is why I'm not buying as much from one specific place. I'm waiting. Best Buy and other stores will offer some good deals. I already have a 10% coupon from them and I'm just waiting for some HD DVD sets to go on sale.

TheMovieman 11-11-07 09:27 PM

What the hell??? On the DVD Planet 20% off thread, it was only $55!

Well, unless that is corrected, guess I'll be getting it at DD instead.

PopcornTreeCt 11-11-07 09:38 PM

Did anyone order this from WHV? Have you got a shipping confirmation yet?

Geauxn 11-11-07 10:47 PM

It is only 55 at DVD Planet. Whoever said it was 79 was looking at the MSRP.

dcprules 11-11-07 10:59 PM

Best place to get it from would be FYE. $54.99 minus $10 paypal10 coupon- $10 MIR rebate =$34.99

If you don't want to use the paypal10 coupon (there is no limit on how many times you can use that coupon), you can also use welcomeccten to save 10 percent or about $5.50

Geauxn 11-11-07 11:57 PM

How long does the rebate take to get back?

No, it was $83, it's been corrected now.

Usually you get the gift cards back fairly quickly, but sometimes it can take a couple of months before you get the check back.
