First disc related - can't remember, but probably Sahara HD DVD

I was a "HD-DVD" guy to begin with. I read the stuff on it, liked it, and focused on HD-DVD's.

So when I got the 360 ad on, and popped in Flynn's Robin Hood, I had my "WOW" moment cus of how damn good such an old film could look. This was my father's favorite movie, and he got me hooked on it, so it was one of my first, but damn, what it something.

But I got a PS3, when I saw the films BD offered, and my "OH SHIT WOW!" moment came from Ice Age 2. The opening sequence, when you can count the hairs on the squirrel's tail, breathtaking.

I've had HD cable since it was first offered a few years ago and I was WOWed by "American Idol" of all things. It's the prettiest, shiniest show on network TV in HD.

Disc related: 2001, just last week.

Super Bowl a few years back, the difference between SD and HD was massive.

My dad didn't care for it though, as sharpness didn't compensate for the black bars heh.

Seeing Corpse Bride on a display at BB/Magnolia earlier this year got me interested in the format. The $99 sale got me into the HD-DVD world (had been holding out for the Sammy dual format). And popping in Adventures of Robin Hood completely blew my mind. And that's a 70 year old picture. I can't wait to check out 300 and Bourne, Shaun of the Dead, and The Searchers. . .

granted that a majority of the film was shot with Genesis HD camera's 'Apocalypto' was jaw dropping particuarily the scene atop the sacrificial temple, the colours, the feathers, the beads all looked so amazing tactile.

There have been lots of WOW moments, both OTA and with media.

But I'd have to say watching classics like Casablanca, The Adventures of Robin Hood, and Forbidden Planet have been the most memorable. They've looked amazing and have me drooling in anticipation of additional catalog title releases.

Well, The Adventures of Robin Hood on dvd looked amazing too. How would you say it looks in comparison to the dvd? I just want to understand what you point of reference is.

I was comparing all of those titles to their DVD counterparts. I suppose that's why it was a "Wow" moment for me. You can look at Casablanca or Robin Hood on standard DVD and say:

"That looks great. It looks better than I ever expected. That's probably the best these old films will ever look.

Then you pop in the HD DVD and say:

"Wow."

I swore I wouldn't buy any more of these.

why?! it's really important to let Warner's know to release all of their great back catalog titles.

Because I have hundreds of dvds and I don't intend to replace them. I may make an exception in this case as it is a longtime favorite but in most cases I won't. Most of my HD purchases will be new releases.

Are you sure you want to see "classic" movies in HD? I grant you there are a few that have had a digital cleanup that look superb. Several have been mentioned but there was also Ben Hur, Gone with the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, Singing in the Rain and a few others. I'm sure they will look wonderful. However, I am less sure about titles that did not get the level of restoration these select few did.

definately! Warners certainly takes the cake when it comes to impreccible HiDef transfers - now let's see if other studios will follow - yes, I'm looking at you Fox.

I havent purchased an HDTV yet, but when I was watching transformers on regular dvd, that was the first time I thought that it would look so much better in HDTV. Im not a real advocate of HDTV, would like to eventually get one, but Im happy being able to pause a movie and it looks like a real picture not some scribbly lines over it(VHS) and I dont have to rewind my movies. But transformers moves pretty quickly especially in the transforming scenes.

You should definitely put a few Warner classics into your Netflix queue. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the results and then answer "yes" to your own question.

After having seen what was accomplished with Casablanca, The Searchers, Forbidden Planet, Mutiny on the Bounty, Robin Hood, Battle of the Bulge, 2001, The Wild Bunch, Grand Prix, etc... your question itself seems a bit confusing. ;)

I can only imagine The Wizard of Oz on hd-dvd. There are countless other Warner classics that would sparkle if given the proper hd treatment.

Unbelievable!! I was going to add the same movie. It was the third HD DVD I played on my XA2 and it completely blew me away.

Bought into the HDTV craze last year during Best Buy's BF sale. Then I had just a simple antenna and saw Shrek or Shrek 2 OTA... I've been hooked since. :)

I should have an HDTV in a week or two, but I brought my A3 to work to demo Transformers and...(rest of the sentence deleted to spare the entire forum of an awful pun about how it was "more than meets the eye".)

Miami Vice on HD-DVD, it was the opening scene with the power boats. The sky was so blue and the water was just perfect. Also there is a scene with them both in the Ferrari. The colours on the car were just right, no pixelation.

Also agree with the earlier poster who said NIN: beside you in time. Just some of the close-ups looked so real (kinda helped that I HAD seen them live around the same time) and the sound is awesome on that disc.

I wonder if the upcoming That's Entertainment sets are a trial balloon for this kind of thing. Some of their ultra-resolution stuff like Singin' in the Rain beg for high-def.

Some of you may laugh, but .... Pride & Prejudice (just released today, 11/13). I don't know what it is, but I love this movie and have watched the SD version at least five times. When I popped in the HD-DVD version earlier this evening, I was blown away - more so than any others I own. Absolutely fantastic PQ! And the sound was amazing as well (TrueHD)

Singin' in the Rain was listed on the WB's site for an upcoming HD-DVD/Blu-ray release. I really hope it comes out soon.
