HD-A3 HD-DVD Player - $199.99 @ Best Buy w/ 10 Total Movies - Working w/ Pre-Orders

Toshiba - HD DVD High-Definition DVD Player HD-A3 - $199.99 @ Best Buy

Yes, I know this is a known deal. You get 5 free from MIR and then 2 in the box - Bourne Identity & 300. You also get 3 of your choice $34.99 and lower. The reason for the new thread is that online it is working on Pre-Orders. It's also only charging a flat $7.63 shipping charge. I don't know of any coupons that work online.

For the 3 free ones, I got:

Stardust
Pan's Labyrinth
Blade Runner

Pan's alone got me excited about the deal.

Damn you!

I had just convinced myself that I didn't need it, since I just purchased a PS3 last week (mainly for Blu-ray) and I could only find 2 movies that I really wanted on HD-DVD (300 and Transformers). Since 300 comes in the box, I needed to find 2 others.

Now that I can do pre-orders too, I had to place an order since there were a couple of other movies in there that I wanted.

NOTE: I specified to pickup the A3 and Transformers in store and the 2 pre-orders to be shipped. The shipping was FREE.

Of course, buyers remorse is in full gear. For $200, you get 10 movies, which you could almost look at as getting the player for free. Just don't know if I can justify owning both the PS3 and an HD-DVD player. Now I need to decide which to return.

It's not supposed to work with pre-orders, so I'd hop on it if possible.

Does anybody have access to a 12% off coupon someplace? My damn birthday coupon was for Oct, and of course all of this happens the next week!

I wonder if they would honor this price at the Best Buy store

Just ordered this, hopefully won't regret it. I am getting the player and the following:

Bourne Ultimatum HD DVD
Ocean's 13 HD DVD
Blade Runner 5 disc HD DVD

free

My player and Ocean's ships soon, the others in December. Hopefully this won't be an issue.

They DO honor the price at the store, as well as the 12% coupon. I walked out with an A3 w/ Transformers, The Departed, and Disturbia all for 175.99.

They are mailed out to some customers and I'm still not sure of the rhyme or reason as to why some of us get them and others not. This week's coupons were only mailed to my husband, so I didn't get a set.

There are typically 3-4 coupons ranging from 10%-12% off of certain items.

Both local stores have shown the A3 being out of stock since yesterday. It's so annoying that they don't have an item that hit the ad today (albeit at a higher printed price). I've tried calling the store to make sure they have no inventory, but of course, nobody in the section picks up. I'm beginning to hate this store.

What he said. I've been a Blu-ray supporter so far but this deal is to good to pass up, however I wouldn't be able to buy it until Friday.

Also, for those who are getting it in store are you having BB pricematch the website or is it marked in store as $199?

The shelf tags say 199 "as advertised." Since they very rarely do mid-week sign adjustments, I'd think it was all week long, but as always, YMMV.

I asked this in the bargain forum thread, but need some quick advice so I hope you all don't mind me repeating my questions here.

Doh! My unopened A2 just went past the return policy deadline for 100% back at Amazon.

Is the A3 that much better than the A2?

Should I return my A2 for 80% at Amazon and upgrade? I'd lose maybe $100 but get the better (?) player and 5 more free HD-DVDs.

Or maybe unload it on ebay?

Don't you just like the crap service we get living in Hawaii. BB has no A3's and Walmart nevered even bothered bringing in any A2's for the secret sale.

That is why I usually give my business to Amazon or other online sites. With the price of A35 coming down little at a time. I will pick one up once it is close to the $300 price and give my A2 to my parents.

The A2 and A3 are pretty much the same. In fact, the A2 is superior for audio if you are using optical (they are the same if you are using HDMI)

The A3 doesn't have enough advantage vs disadvantage to go through all that trouble, IMHO.

Gonna take back my $98 Wal-Mart A2 and get this instead. Ordered the A3 for in-store pick up and Pan's Labarynth, Bourne Ultimatum and Zodiac Director's Cut (shipped free) for $199 + tax - gift card (for return of 360 HD-DVD drive). Total charge = $24. Now I've got a $100 Wal-Mart gift card, but I think I'll end up making out alright (assuming that BB.com really honors this -- I hope they do).

I picked up the A3 and I wouldn't call it an upgrade. I checked the AVS Forum for reviews and playback seems identical. The only differences I can find is the output over toslink (A2 puts out higher quality 1.5mbs DTS), USB ports (A3 only has 1, A2 has 2), S-Video (A3 has no S-Video and comes with no cables at all BTW, however, you should be using HD connections anyway) and the A3 has a smaller remote missing the option of controlling a TV.

The A3 is slightly smaller and IMO not as nice looking as the A2.

The only real advantage to getting the A3 is 300 and Bourne Identity free. I would just keep the A2.

Picked up an A3 tonight! Local BB was supposed to be out of stock (looked on the site) but they had 2 left.

I got the A3 (300, Bourne Identity) and picked up Bourne Supremacy, Batman Begins, and new edition of Full Metal Jacket for 211.XX.

Also, the a3 was marked as 199.99 in store.

Good luck everyone!

Just a reminder, Best Buy's online inventory shows "not available" on any product that has three or less in store. If you really want anything that's not showing available on the site, just call the electronics department and read them the SKU.

Thanks for the advice people!

I'm still undecided, but will probably just keep the A2.

Called both the Honolulu and Aiea store and both have no A3's. The Aiea store said they are expecting to get 6 of them on Tuesday. But make sure to call before going down there. Honolulu store said just come down and they will order you one for the sale price.
