I think this is real good news for HD fans - it means the transfers have been done and are ready to be pressed...I think we will see HD Hitchcock sooner rather than later now..

Does anyone have any speculation on when these would hit HD DVD? Obviously they won't be coming this holiday season but maybe this summer.

Universal doesn't have much left in their library(barring Spielberg warming up to the HD-DVD format), so it wouldn't be the worst idea in the world to release a few Hitchcock titles. I just hope they clean them up a little so we don't end up with a repeat of The Sting. I had to strain my eyes to notice any picture upgrade.

I'm torn between being pissed that I have Comcast and likely will miss this... and being excited that Universal has these prepped and will likely pull the trigger on some HD DVDs in 2008.

My response: Huh? What do you mean that Universal doesn't have much left in their library? They have a very large library... I'm not sure where you're going with this.
Ignoring Spielberg, you have all the Universal Monster movies, Scarface, American Graffiti, Legend, To Kill a Mockingbird, Double Indemnity, Sixteen Candles, Conan, American Pie, Touch of Evil, Andromeda Strain, Fletch, Flash Gordon, Blues Brothers, Mulholland Drive, Out of Africa, Silent Running, Babe, Curious George, Slap Shot...
... and TV stuff like Law & Order, The Office, House, Friday Night Lights, 30 Rock, etc.
And that's just a few biggies that I came up with off the top of my head. Their catalog is just as deep as any other studio out there.

And regarding the TV shows, if those are a valuable part of their library, then why didn't Universal release The Office, House, Friday Night Lights, and 30 Rock day-and-date on HD-DVD?
And as for American Graffiti, I love the movie and would gladly pick it up if it were ever released, but I consider Lucas titles the same as Spielberg's. We'll be waiting a long time before those ever see the light of day on HD-DVD.
