Warner announced The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford for SD DVD - anybody hear anything about a blu-ray and HD DVD release? My favourite movie of the year, I really hope the high def version is streeting on Feb 5th as well.

Blu Bits:
First, 20th Century Fox has sent over a statement about the forthcoming release of Independence Day on Blu-ray Disc. The title had been set for release on 12/4, but has now been pushed back to March 2008. Here's the reason why according to the studio:
"We realize the forums have been whipped into a frenzy, so here are the facts: While putting Independence Day through our regular and rigorous QC process, we detected a minor glitch. Even though 95% of users would likely not know or encounter it, we chose to do the right thing and remaster, which necessitates moving the release date. It is now scheduled for a March release."

At some point, you get past "this is disappointing, but it happens..." and into "really, get it together", and Fox crossed that line a while ago.
As a studio, I love Fox. I think they have an amazing catalog, I have stacks and stacks of their DVDs, and they've put out some of the most deeply impressive special editions of any studio, but I really wish they'd get their act together with Blu-ray.

My guess with Fox this is they simply don't build any time into their production schedule for dealing with unanticipated technical issues. Either that, or it is taking them much longer to produce the content than they thought it would, and any time they allowed for testing and fixing bugs evaporated.
Either way it smells like poor planning to me.

Independence Day would have been nice to have this year...but I'm just thrilled to have the Die Hard Trilogy (with 90% of the special features ported over), Edward Scissorhands, The Fly, Robocop, Cast Away and The Simpsons Movie. Master and Commander and Independence Day will make good first quarter purchases.

Great to hear about Bonnie & Clyde especially since I never picked up the DVD. Really hope WB starts announcing more such as The Shawshank Redemption, The Wizard of Oz and L.A. Confidential.

HDD now has a pre-order link to Amazon's page for The Heartbreak Kid on HD DVD.
Here's the strange part:
List price is 25.95, with a selling price of 18.15. I wonder if this is a mistake, or hopefully a new trend in pricing!

Or maybe DreamWorks has no confidence in the title selling well given its box office performance.
