Second time around and a question?

as I have previously posted I am a total newcomer to the world of Blu Ray discs, having only seen a couple of movies but I am now totally convinced, I get my copy of Troy Directors cut from Amazon last night, total blind buy, and again it is just gorgeous, the colours, the PCM soundtrack etc are just beautiful, I tried to watch my standard dvd copy of Swingers a movie I consider a masterpiece myself heheh, and it just looks like something out of a 1970's tv documentary, damn you Blu Ray I am totally spoiled.

And now on to my question, does anyone know anything about this version of Kingdom of Heaven from Fox's UK site?

http://www.fox.co.uk/dvd/kingdom_of_...y_-11382/11382

it seems that it has all the goody extras that were totally missing on the North American version, what gives?? and also these are region coded movies so they will not play on my PS3 am I correct?

As far as the extras go, a lot of import discs tend to have different features, or more or less features than a domestic release. You might try searching around for a review of the UK disc to make sure that the features are in fact on the disc, and not just on the site in error. As far as the region codings go, you got me. I'm fairly new to Blu-Ray as well, and while I know that HD-DVD does not have region coding, I'm not sure about Blu-Ray.

Swingers was a low-budget movie shot quickly on 16mm film, so the DVD even looks poor compared to other DVDs.

true Swingers was made for like 250 grand so that explains all, as for regional encoding my research has lead to finding out that some studios do region free and some dont, oh so confusing.

Hello...glad you enjoy your films in BR!

To answer your question, Fox-products are indeed 99.99% likely to be coded. This being said a large number of titles coming from overseas aren't coded meaning that you could play them in your US PS3/standalone player. Sony, WB, Tartan, Sandrew, even Buena Vista catalog titles aren't coded...with a few blockbuster exceptions. Best bet for you would be to either post here, take a look at the search database in post#1 in this thread...

...or search for a particular review.

Either way do not hesitate to ask.

Hope this helps,

thanks for the clarification pro-bass, yep it looks like Fox has disappointed once again, a barebones Blu Ray release in North America, and the vast majority of their movies are indeed region locked, which I get but whats with the release of the version on this side of the world of Kingdom of Heaven.

So they can make more money off us Americans when they double-dip a year or two down the road.
