If I Could Pick Ten Titles for HD Release...

If given the chance to select ten titles (or series) for release in HD (Blu-Ray or HD-DVD), which ones would you choose?

My list is as follows:

1. Moulin Rouge (2001)
2. Titanic (1997)
3. Braveheart
4. The Last of the Mohicans (1992)
5. The "Star Trek" films (they can keep Star Trek V, though)
6. The "Star Wars" films
7. The "Indiana Jones" films
8. The "Alien" films
9. The "Lord of the Rings" films
10. Ben-Hur (1959)

There's a handful of films I would love to see in hi-def for personal reasons. I would love to see if DreamWorks could top the DTS-ES track on the DVD for "The Haunting" with a lossless track. Disney films such as "Sleeping Beauty" and "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" definitely have a place on my list of must-haves. Too many more to list here. Anyone else have a list of must-haves?

"The Rock" sounds good... made me remember another Michael Bay film I wouldn't mind in high-def: "Armageddon," if only to be able to see it on something other than the crappy non-anamorphic discs we've been stuck with all these years.

here is my list, i just went through my dvd colllection and picked out what i would like to see available in HD. i had to throw in some foreign movies as well.

1. Fight Club
2. Spring, Summer, Winter, Autumn, and Spring
3. Taegukgi
4. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
5. Apocalypse Now
6. THX-1138
7. Band of Brothers
8. Big Trouble in Little China
9. Ran
10. Joint Security Area

and as a bonus, Infernal Affairs 2 and 3 so that my IA 1 will not be alone on my shelf anymore

i know that band of brothers is out in Japan but i want a domestic release that would be a little cheaper.

You can get The Rock BD from Amazon.UK, it's not region-coded. Slight bit of EE, but not a bad disc IMO.

Aren't the Star Trek films like 10 titles in-and-of themselves? Seems you got over 30 titles here in your list

My wants haven't changed much since this subject came up a year and a half ago, save for one title that has already been released (Serenity). Since my list is quite different from most, I'll mention a handful of titles that would be "must haves" for me:

1) Pride and Prejudice (1995) [A&E]
2) Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon [Sony/Columbia]
3) Amélie [Disney/Miramax]
4) Quigley Down Under [MGM]
5) The Lord of the Rings (Extended Editions) [New Line]

I'd also surely pick up Moulin Rouge, mentioned by hauntnut, because it was such a visual feast for the eyes. Don't know if I would be tempted by Star Wars; I think that I have watched them enough, over the years, and I find the controversy over the changes wearing.

The Right Stuff
Glory
Armageddon
Wo de fu qin mu qin (The Road Home)
Ying xiong (Hero)
Lawrence of Arabia
Beetlejuice
Pleasantville
Cidade de Deus (City of God)
Contact

Some of the films that would have made the list a couple of months ago have now been slated for release (2001: A Space Odyssey foremost amongst them).

Primer wouldn't benefit so much from HD anything, movie was shot on a shoestring budget with subpar gear.

That said for me:
1. Dark City
2. Mulholland Drive (sans Pitch issues)
3. Beetlejuice
4. Ghostbusters
5. Lord of the Rings (Trilogy)
6. ...
7. ...
8. Fight Club
9. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
10. Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair

Few others: Akira, Ninja Scroll (properly remastered), Battle Royale, Survive Style 5+ *, The Ring (US Remake w/ the original as a bonus feature.), Riki-oh, Audition (properly remastered), Minority Report, Jurassic Park, Ki-Duk Kim flicks (3-Iron, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring, etc; ), Wes Anderson flicks, bunch of additional titles...

* - Hell, a domestic DVD release would be nice.

I'm going off the top of my head, so I'm sure I'll forget something, but here's what pops to mind

Gladiator
Saving Private Ryan
Minority Report
X-Men 2
Lord of the Rings
Fight Club
The Abyss
Star Wars
Road to Perdition
Downfall

In general I went with films that I thought could benefit most from high def, either visual treats or ones with agressive sound. These aren't my favorite films not on HD, but I would enjoy them all.

All James Bond Films
All Edward Burns - directed films
Amadeus
Snow Falling on Cedars
L'Equipier

I would put Ronin and Red Dawn, but they are a comin'!

Not to sidetrack, but I just saw the Viva Las Vegas BD last night. What a great-looking disc, and vintage Ann-Margret in HD!!!

... no finer woman can be found in the history of cinema!

Downfall is already on HD DVD. It is release from Spain called "Der Untergang". I have it and it is very good!

Out of all these, I have in HD:

Moulin Rouge

Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Fight Club
Band of Brothers
Ghostbusters

Not as good as the HD / BD discs would be, but better than nothing....
