Robocop Blu Ray: Which version?
Can anyone confirm if the Blu ray version of Robocop will be theatrical or the unrated (director's cut) version? I understand none of the extras will be included but there seems to be some confusion as to what version will the Bluray have:
This site says theatrical: http://www.dvdtown.com/news/mgm-trie...ray-again/4739 while this says unrated: http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh..._No_Extras/966 Thanks!!! |
It's a brand new trasnfer of the unrated version.

Can anyone provide any insight as to the video quality of the Blu-Ray, as it compares to the recent 20th anniversary edition (steelbook) DVD release? I just picked up the anniversary DVD edition since it was only $9.99 compared to more than double that for the Blu-Ray, and I was wondering just how much worse the upconverted DVD looks compared to the Blu-Ray (which HighDefDigest only gave a 3/5 to for video quality).

The only released version (MGM never hit shelves last year) of Robocop on Blu-ray looks pretty bad. If it was not in a Blue case I could have sworn it was a DVD upconverted.

After renting this one, I bought the Robocop steelbook for cheap during a recent sale, and it looks quite good and the extras just completely put it over the top. If HDM stuff really get's cranking, there is some serious HD double-dipping in the wind for these barebone hidef releases, just to add in different versions of the film and commentaries. -beebs |
I just took a look at the screencaps in the DVD Beaver Blu-Ray review, and to my eyes the Blu-Ray looks too artificially over-sharpened.
But for the price I guess right now the 2-disc Anniversary DVD is the best way to go, as it is fully-loaded. As long as the upconvert is not macro-block-city I'll be happy. I tried to watch an upconvert of Ocean's Thirteen last week, and it was so ugly I just gave up. |
Whew! I thought this implied that there were already two versions of BD out for it.

The BD is a terrible offering. It was originally one of the starter titles I wanted to own (because, like someone said, they are probably cherry-picking the current HD-buyer demographic), but after hearing it has NONE of the steelbook's extras despite donning the same cover and that the transfer is not much better than an upscaled DVD, I wouldn't touch this one with a 10-foot pole. We're Hi-def lovers, not saps!!
