This maybe happening to HD also, but apparently the coating sucks on BD - Looks like I'm going to have to check all my BD's :(

I saw a good one in Youtube last year where they went into a plant, I think it was either Memorex or Verbatim, and showed spin coating for both formats. If anyone finds that video please post it!

Sure, that's why they went ahead and made a completely new storage architecture while toshiba is using the same underlying technology of DVD.

His point wasn't that they wouldn't introduce new technology, it was that they would basically hold a monopoly wherein one company would control the market. The same finger so many people like to point at Microsoft.

How about this: if your power company also built and sold lightbulbs, and the only lightbulbs you could use were theirs, what incentive would they have to:

1- keep consumer costs down,
2- keep build quality levels up,
3- improve the product?

Also, I don't buy the notion that newer is necessarily better.

Instead of arguing about what's better, why not watch the HD-DVD or Blu-Ray disc you bought? I don't get the desire to force your opinion on the world and take on everyone who disagrees. If there weren't more than one kind of car, we might all be paying $50k for Ford Focuses (Foci?). Are these guys going to debate the issue if both formats 'battle' for market share for the next 10 years? :rolleyes:

I don't see this as any different than Xbox vs. Playstation games. If an Xbox fan wanted to play Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, he bought a PS2 or waited out the exclusive contract.

I'd have 3 PS3's in my house... Not to mention I wouldnt have to worry about anyone stealing my television. When the sets not on it changes back! :D
