BSG Razor will (apparently not be on) HD DVD!

Yay! Just saw this on the Digital Bits today. Now if they can get out Season 3 in HD Universal has another sale from me.

And Universal has finally announced the extras that you'll find on their DVD release of the Battlestar Galactica: Razor - Unrated Extended Edition on 11/4. You'll get deleted scenes, audio commentary with series creators David Eick and Ron Moore, 2 featurettes (The Look of Battlestar Galactica and My Favorite Episode So Far), and an exclusive preview of Season Four, which starts on Sci-Fi in January. The good news for you HD-DVD fans is that Razor will be released on that format as well on 11/4 (no details on extras are available yet, but it's reasonable to assume that at least all of the DVD extras will be included). Also, for ALL you Battlestar fans, if you visit this link at Sci-Fi.com starting tomorrow, you'll be able to vote for your favorite of three different DVD covers for the release. The one selected by the majority of fans will be used on 11/4.

Given that Razor is technically the first two episodes of S4, will we be buying it twice if we get S4? My guess is yes...

Supermallet 08-27-07 06:31 PM

BSG is already on season 4? Shee-it!

Mr. Salty 08-27-07 06:36 PM

The Bits made a bit of a mistake on the date. This was already announced for 12/4, not 11/4, which is a Sunday. "Razor" doesn't even air until 11/24.

I suspect Season 3 will be released the same day, with "Razor" available separately and as part of the Season 3 box set. One indicator of this is, if you find the listing for "Razor" on BestBuy.com, the list price is given as $69.99 for the regular DVD. I suspect that's the list price for Season 3.

Yeah, Amazon is showing Razor at that price, too. Looks like a goof. I really suspect S3 will be $69.99 and will NOT include Razor, which will be $26.99 (retail).

Will skip it until S2 and S3 are released on HD DVD.

MBoyd 08-27-07 08:34 PM

You'd deny yourself HD BSG goodness? You are stronger than me.

bee_01 08-28-07 05:12 PM

According to today's news, Razor is DVD only.

Laaaame. I would have bought this.

Cartload 08-28-07 08:52 PM

Sucks. The DVD only release makes no sense to me at all. Way to push the format.

MBoyd 08-28-07 11:03 PM

Frak

Supermallet 08-29-07 01:01 AM

Time to change the thread title.

bee_01 08-29-07 03:49 AM

But you can vote on the cover art for the DVD here :

I guess mods have to do it? I tried to make it this:

BSG Razor will NOT be on HD DVD! FRAK!

bunkaroo 08-29-07 10:41 AM

I'm hoping this would be included on any eventual S3 or S4 HD DVD, but I doubt Uni will miss the opportunity of selling it as a separate title again.

Ditto.

I held off buying season 2 because they split it into 2 parts and charged the price of a regular season box for each. I haven't watched more than 2 episodes of season 3 because I want it in HD, but I won't be paying $159.95 or anything close for a single season.

alfredog1976 09-03-07 02:31 PM

Here's where you can vote for the cover (out of 3) and see a clip:

Back in May or June Universal started bundling seasons 2.0 and 2.5 together and they cut the price. I haven't seen the bundle in stores yet, but you can find it online for about $52.

kvrdave 09-06-07 06:32 PM

Amazon has pre-orders for Season 1 on HD-DVD. Could it be that someone is actually releasing the first season of a show first?

It will be mine.

The Battlestar Galactica movie, Razor, premieres on Sci-Fi on November 24th, but fans will be able to see it 12 days early, at least in some specially-selected cities, where they will be able to attend a special screening at a theater. Beginning Friday, fans will be able to go and register at www.battlestarevent.com to be able to see the movie in the following cities:

Los Angeles, New York/New Jersey, San Francisco, Dallas, Boston, Philadelphia, Seattle, and Chicago.

The hell with you, Des Moines! Straight. To. Hell.

Admission is free, but those who want to see “Razor” at a movie theater again, you must first register at the site www.battlestarevent.com. The site will not go live until Friday. Repeat: The site will not go live until Friday. Seat registrations will be given away first-come, first-serve.

Does anyone know WHEN on Friday it will go live?

Thanks for the heads up! I would really like to get a shot at seeing this in a theater.

MBoyd 10-25-07 11:20 AM

Hopefully it will look decent and NOT like the showing of The Birds I had the displeasure to see the other night.

Is this true? I thought it was supposed to be [POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING] a stand-alone movie that told the story of Cain and the Pegasus right before the Cylon Attack on the Colonies. How would that fit into season 4?

MBoyd 10-27-07 12:17 PM

I think there are a couple of elements that tie into S4 but thats it.

ENDContra 11-05-07 02:14 PM

Somewhat offtopic, but it looks like the original miniseries is not included in the season one HD-DVD set? It was included in the original DVD release, which I have. So if I want to upgrade and be able to sell my old sell, Ill have to repurchase the miniseries on DVD? LAME. I read somewhere that the mini wasnt actually produced in HD, but still...most TV on DVD sets for that price have 22 episodes...the least they could do is include the miniseries.

MBoyd 11-05-07 02:27 PM

It was on film, so it should be HD ready. Univesal has F'd up these BSG sets from the start. No surprise that they continue doing so. And I am still pissed about Razor.

ENDContra 11-05-07 03:51 PM

^I was thinking that would most likely be the case...maybe where I read this got confused with that it didnt air in HD originally anywhere (although I recall it did air on UHD recently now that I think of it).

Where did you see this? Amazon's description shows that the miniseries is included in the set.

DVD Polizei 11-06-07 01:12 AM

As per Amazon:

Product Description
One of the best shows on television looks better than ever as Battlestar Galactica: Season One arrives on HD DVD. Relive all 13 thrilling episodes plus the four-hour miniseries that started it all in this six disc set.

I don't know where you got your information, but it's wrong. This is from Universal's press release about Season One on HD DVD:

Also exclusive to the HD DVD release will be a picture-in-picture video commentary on the entire mini-series, featuring Moore, cast and crew and additional making-of footage.
The upcoming made-for-TV movie, "Battlestar Galactoca: Razor," is not coming out on HD DVD yet. Maybe that's what you're thinking.

MBoyd 11-06-07 09:43 AM

Well glad that's settled. Whew . . . :)
