Any chance of Indiana Jones on HD or BR?

Anyone know if the Indiana Jones trilogy is ever going to be released in either of the HD formats??

That would be much faster than I would expect. It only took like 6 years for it to come on DVD.

Fox would have to start rereleasing stuff to BD first, and right now they're not releasing anything.

Indiana Jones, of course, being Paramount.

I would hope for an Adentures set next Fall... we'll see. Not like they have to create a bunch of new extras for the first three... just dump it on HD/BD and ship it. It would seem like a wasted opportunity for marketing to miss the new film's release yr... it's only been 19 yrs since the last one and all.

lucas might do the same thing with the indy films that he did with star wars.. that the films would be on cinemax/HBO in HD only.

I think there's a better chance of this than there is a chance of hi-def Star Wars right now. Who has the "say" on a home video release? Speilberg? Lucas? Or Paramount?

If it's Lucas, no way...if it's Steven, there's a chance.

EDIT: No chance on Blu-ray now. Paramount is officially a "red state".

If you start trolling the asian markets I'm sure you'll see an import within the next couple months.

seems logical that it would be out in a box set with the release of Indy 4.

also hope the tidbit from the Best Buy Exclusive disc ends up on the Raiders disc

Well, I guess if Paramount sticks to their "no Spielberg titles" commitment we won't be seeing Indy next yr.

which would be totally dumb, now that Paramount is releasing in HD-DVD exclusively. If Columbia can release CE3K (ON BLU-RAY), Paramount can exploit the release of the first three films when Indy 4 gets released next summer.

Still hope (according to AICN):

"I then asked when the INDIANA JONES set would hit and if it would be exclusive to HD. Rob responded that on the films that Steven directs, he wants the titles to be available in both formats - so those will be cross-platform titles."

That's what he means, though: if Spielberg wants his movies to be cross-platform, as the quote above indicates, then it wouldn't be Blu-ray only.

A better wording for the quote would have been that Spielberg doesn't want his movies to be HD DVD exclusive. He apparently doesn't mind if they're on HD DVD; just that there at a minimum be a Blu-ray release.

oh so it's okay, that Sony is interested in releasing CE3K, but BR only, Dreamworks merges with Paramount, Paramount decides BR isn't good enough, goes HD-DVD exclusive, HD-DVD Spielberg films get released only on HD-DVD (Universal and P/D films), Columbia/Sony - BR only, HD-DVD, no.

what a clusterfuck situation.

Exclusive: Spielberg "Big Supporter" of Blu-ray; Future HD DVD Releases Still Uncertain
Tue Aug 21, 2007 at 11:46 AM ET
Tags: Industry Forecasts, Steven Spielberg (all tags)

Confirming mounting speculation, we've got exclusive word this morning that Steven Spielberg is indeed "a big supporter" of Blu-ray, and that yesterday's carve out in the Paramount/DreamWorks HD DVD announcement was designed to allow the legendary director to release future titles on Blu-ray.

With many of his early blockbusters distributed by Universal Pictures ('E.T.,' 'Jurassic Park' and 'Jaws,' among them), it was once assumed that the combination of Steven Spielberg's classic titles and Universal's exclusive HD DVD support would be one of format's biggest weapons against rival Blu-ray, but a series of developments have led many to speculate that perhaps Spielberg himself has other ideas.

The first hint of trouble for HD DVD came back in February when the HD DVD promo group issued a public apology to Spielberg after listing several of his titles in a "Coming Soon" list that was apparently never approved by the director.

Then, just last month came word that the very first Spielberg high-def title -- a 30th anniversary edition of 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' -- would be released on Blu-ray, not HD DVD. (That release is due November 13, day and date with the standard-def DVD edition.)

Finally, yesterday's stunner of a Paramount/DreamWorks HD DVD exclusivity press release included a conspicuous one line carve-out, stating that Spielberg's DreamWorks films would be exempt from the terms of the HD DVD exclusivity arrangement, opening the door to the possible future release of more recent Spielberg blockbusters on Blu-ray.

So what's the deal? We put that question to the source for all things Spielberg -- his longtime spokesman and DreamWorks marketing exec Marvin Levy. Speaking exclusively with High-Def Digest, Levy confirmed Spielberg's active support of Blu-ray with the selection of 'Close Encounters' for his next-gen debut.

"It was important to Steven that if any of his films were to be released [first] on high-definition, that it would be a classic," said Levy. "Steven is big supporter of Blu-ray, and chose 'Close Encounters' to be the first of his films on either format."

Spielberg approved the new high-def transfer made for the film, and among the Blu-ray's supplements is a new introduction recorded by the director specifically for the release, as well as a storyboard comparison.

Levy further clarified the Paramount/DreamWorks press release, syaing that "...his movies, like 'Saving Private Ryan' and 'War of the Worlds,' are not included in that deal. They are not exclusive to HD DVD, nor [are they] planned for that format at this time.'"

Levy went on emphasize that beyond 'Close Encounters,' Spielberg has no other films in the high-def pipeline on either format. "At this moment, there are no plans for something further [on either format]. Anything in the future will be decided on a title-by-title basis. There certainly won't be more titles in 2007."

Spielberg films were apparently explicitly excluded from the Paramount/Dreamworks agreement. Presumably there's nothing on tap from Universal where Spielberg's concerned either.

As Adam points out (look up one post), "no Spielberg titles" is innacurrate when discussing yesterday's Paramount/HD-DVD announcement. It's that Spielberg's titles in the Paramount catalog is not part of the announcement -- Indiana Jones (et al) may be HD-DVD, may be Blu-Ray, may be both. The status of those movies is as known today as it was before the Paramount announcement.
