I am not comparing BD owners to immature 10 year olds. The constituency of AVS is full of immature posters who, IMO, would participate in a poll to help whatever cause they are backing. If a BD problem poll came up here, I would not vote in it, nor would I on a title that I did not own. I feel comfortable that most of us here with a few glaring exceptions would do the same. The results of polling that group at AVS should shock no one that knows their membership's reputation. |
Back to the OT...
I posted this over at AVS as well This is weird. The first time I tested out 300 at a few of the times people were saying there were issues, mine was fine. I tried it out a few days later and it skips in all of the same spots people were describing. There are zero scratches, dirt or fingerprints on it. I have the A2 with FW2.1 and have never had a problem with a combo disc until now. I even watched Hot Fuzz after the 300 issues with no problems, followed by some slight tweaking on the HD side of DVE. Weird...... looks like Amazon is replacing this one for me |

I'm not saying there is a problem, but we haven't seen dozens of reports here, and we are less reactionary, and the 1eet crowd seems to stay away, so I would think the problems are far less than reported on AVS and that shill Hunt's site. All that said, if I were Tosh, I would shelve the combos for the time being, especially on huge releases. They can't afford any bad pub. They actually started a public poll so people could see who was voting, in case there were people being dishonest. In my personal experience, the amount of format fanatics willing to skew results based on a personal bias is very much equal for both sides at AVS. There are a lot of pathetic people there. I am not a format fanboy. I enjoy both formats. In fact, I watched about five HD-DVD's in the past 4 days and enjoyed everyone of them. But you cannot deny there are more problems with HD-DVD combos of 300 than there are with the Blu-Ray version. This has nothing to do with Bill Hunt. This was evident from users posting their experiences, both here and at AVS. I have not seen anywhere the same number of complaints about the BD version. The combo format is a blight on HD-DVD in its current implementation. Think of how many people may have finally jumped into the format last week based on 300. Now think of what it would be like to have your first experience with a new format be "error 4086 4203" or disc freezing and stuttering. Not a good first impression. |
Wow this thing derailed.
Anyway, on the 300 front the copy I bought yesterday played back perfectly tonight so that is a relief. Back to back combos with zero issues. At least I know my A2 is okay other than that pesky audio CD skipping, but I can play those in something else. Out of all my combos Superman is the only one I know of with issues currently. The question now is how to get a replacement. |
Was this thread about problems with 300 HD-DVD?
Mine played flawlessly. Nothing unsusal. |
My 300 combo disk played flawlessy on my XBOX HD-DVD Player.
For what it's worth, I tried to watch 300 tonight but the disc crapped out in Chapter 14. No amount of retrying can get it to play through that point. :(

Maybe T-Fal and HD-DVD can run a joint promotion - free 2 quart boiling pot with the purchase of any combo! :D

I did try washing the disc to no avail. I'm not going to boil it. I tried that when Children of Men had problems and it made no difference. It took a firmware update for the player to resolve that, and I expect the same in this case.

No problems with my HD-XA1 with FW 2.3.
No problems with my HD-A1 with FW 2.3.
Back to report after watching both sides of this disc, SD and HD, there's no issues here on my A20.
No problems here, HD-A2.
I was having problems playing superman returns.. it was playing in PCM, but when I played it in bitstream.. it worked fine.. maybe you should try that?

Firmware 2.2 for the XA2 does not fix any of the '300' playback problems. I had to watch the end of the movie on the DVD side of the disc, which looks utterly blurry in comparison.
I still haven't heard exactly what firmware 2.2 does compared to 2.0.
I picked up 300 on HD DVD today, and will check for any errors.
Mine played perfectly on the A1.
Quick update on mine, I played chapters 16-24 with no issues on the same A2 player the last disc had issues with. Any other chapters/scenes I should quickly check to make sure it's good?
I was able to get through the movie and all extras with my XA1 w/firmware 2.2. In fact, I've had no issues with my player since updating to 2.2 and I can't imagine I'm going to update it again.
Mine played fine on the HD-A2 - not sure the firmware, since I haven't updated it since I got the player a few months ago but it worked fine.
