I can barely even picture how that think would look, and I'm looking at the picture.

Looks kinda cool. Good news for Blu.

Supermallet 07-13-07 02:22 AM

I'm with ya. Looks like an alarm clock.

eedoon 07-13-07 05:45 AM

That certainly looks pretty...

for a garbage bin.

Where's the center speaker?

With Blu-Ray you don't need one!

"Captain's Log, Star Date Blah Blah Blah. Number 2, let's take it up to -25db".

Seriously, I fell like I need a license to operate that thing.

Well that should be about $4k or so. So Onkyo to HD-DVD, Denon to BD. Not unexpected.

matome 07-13-07 08:22 AM

Nice to have Denon on board, but hopefully they'll put out a component-like version as well.

Josh Z 07-13-07 09:20 AM

I love my current Denon equipment, but that's just hideous. With those curved designs, how are you supposed to stack these with your other components?

I hope that's just concept art and not finalized. Looks like the goofy "futuristic" concept cars that auto manufacturers display at trade shows every year before announcing their real models. The person who'd buy that would also want one of these.

Yeah, these weird designs are certainly not my cup of tea either. Just give me a nice black box with those round foot disc things under and I'm happy.

You shouldn't "stack" most of your devices anyway. Most devices need adequate space to dispurse heat.

In my experience, my receiver is the only thing that has ever been sensitive to ventillation. I've had 3 DVD players stacked on a shelf for years without issue. My HD DVD player also sits on top of my Blu-ray player.

Read the fine print - "Blu-ray DVD player." So which is it?

Both.

What's so hard to understand? It plays Blu ray discs and DVDs.

viking99 07-13-07 02:21 PM

Yeah, I got that. Using the term "Blu-ray DVD player" would be considered inappropriate, as the correct reference is "Blu-ray Disk player." I thought that would be obvious. I'll try to be more clear next time....

I'm about to give up on that. People are just going to call it that regardless. It's just like how people are going to say "I bought some Blu-rays," which makes as much sense as saying you bought music on Compacts and used to buy Lasers back in the day. :)

Anyway, yeah, you don't really want to stack your components if you can help it. I believe the PS3 was designed with the curve on top to prevent just that.

kefrank 07-13-07 07:06 PM

that's some seriously ugly home theater equipment.

Coral 07-13-07 07:39 PM

"ITunes Music Store Direct Connection" makes me weep.

Goes to show how little people care about sound quality by adding an option like this. Ironic that they add this option to higher end equipment that's supposed to get you better quality sound - just so you have the ability to play crappy sounding compressed MP3s.

you have the XA2 correct? is it a bit lighter than the XA1? I don't think I could put anything under that thing even if I wanted too.

darkside 07-13-07 08:23 PM

Well that is one Denon product I won't be buying.

lizard 07-13-07 09:07 PM

Is that a slot loader? Has Denon used those before?

speedyray 07-13-07 09:08 PM

Well, I was waiting to see what Denon would do, maybe it will be great, but it is ugly. Why does everyone think they have to be different. I just want a normal clean looking black component to go in my AV rack. Oh, and I completly agree that having iTunes on a high end peice of equipment is funny. It is kind of like wanting to run E85 in a race car.

AOD 07-13-07 10:09 PM

That thing is horrible looking. Eh, whatever floats Denon's boat. More than meets the eye, Blu-ray in disguise.
