I'm pretty sure it's Weinstein... didn't they just release these in the US as part of their Dragon Dynasty line?

Yep. In fact, they released the entire trilogy.

I'm not sure which one owns the rights. IA 2 & 3 are definitely Weinstein's Dragon Dynasty, but the original Infernal Affairs disc was under the Miramax name. That was the orange-spined copy of IA in the recent trilogy boxset. Whether Weinstein ensnared the rights to the full franchise, I don't know.

What I do know is that Media Asia throws together some incredible discs, and a full 1080p BD from them of their baby film (see their infamous Trilogy boxset and stellar previous two-disc set) will probably be a stellar achievement.

Anyone know what Blu-ray region Hong Kong falls into? I am so all over this if it's Region A.

It's Region A.

I have to admit this is a title I didn't expect to be on HD so soon.

Originally released by Miramax in US, but perhaps the film was retained by Weinstein after he left, like a bunch of other HK films. In Canada, the title is distributed by Alliance Atlantis (like most Miramax films are).

This is great news for Media Asia to jump into either HD format. The only thing that concerns me though is that according to AsianDVDGuide, it's supposed to be released on July 9th. Being as it's right around the corner, I can't find any site that has this available for pre-order.

Anyone else have any luck?

I had no joy either!

I have emailed both HKFlix an YesAsia regarding it and will see what they say.

I'm pretty sure Miramax still has the U.S. rights and the Weinsteins sub-licensed it for inclusion in the DD box set -- the standalone Buena Vista DVD is still in print and the version in the box set is exactly the same, right down to the Miramax logos.

Though street date is Jul 9, the disc can now be bought at the show room in the Hong Kong International Airport for HKD180.

The disc is 25GB single layer with AVC format.

It is a bit disappointed with the PQ. Lots of scenes are out focus and the noise level is quite serious.

I was kind of wary of how the picture quaility would be on this. Hong Kong for the most part was never known for the best quality DVDs exactly, so I really wasn't expecting much for their first BD.

How is the PQ quality compared to the 2-disc editions of IA 1-3?

Curious... anyone know if any other countries are releases in HD/BD right now? I've seen Oldboy on HDDVD but that aside its been slim pickings.

Uncompressed PCM has got to be nice.

I want the entire trilogy, so I will hold off.

A few online retailers are no listing it:

http://sensasian.com/product.php/EN/V15323-B
http://www.dddhouse.com/v3/product_d...2&LanguageID=0
http://www.buyoyo.com/cgi-bin/ncomme...AGE=1&curr=USD

Interestingly, the retailers are listing it as being all-region. Muldoon at Asian DVD Guide got confirmation from Mega Star that it is all-region.
