I believe someone else mentioned this before, but it would be good for the HD-DVD promo group to persuade their studios (and maybe WB too) to release day/date HD-DVDs a week earlier than the standard DVD releases. It would help push the format.

They need to give consumers as many reasons to adopt as possible!

Do we need a petition!?! ;)

I await patiently for Braveheart in its full 1080p glory!

I like that idea.

It reminds of the earlier days of DVD. IIRC Gladiator was out on DVD well before it was available on VHS.

eh, more confusing numbers. first they don't include xbox hd dvd drives, but then they do. typical corporate spin to make their numbers look better...

Agreed! They have a way to crappy Holiday lineup.

RockStrongo 11-28-07 12:31 PM

I think these studios have realized that catalog titles arent going to sell as well.

So, the fact that they are putting out day/date titles this November/December is their big names.

It would be nice if they would release a couple big name catalog titles (Back to the Future, Braveheart and so on), but I think they realize that those just arent the money makers so they arent a priority.

I just received V for Vendetta from the Amazon B2G1 sale and the transfer on this baby is just downright gorgeous. It's one of my favorite movies of all time and watching this in HD was very much like watching it for the first time. I haven't had time to mess with the PIP but that will be for later tonight.

I wonder if they have to get Mel involved for any releases though?

There hasnt been a Braveheart special edition DVD either. Seems like Paramount would have released this a couple times on DVD (like Apocalypse Now?) if they could. It SCREAMS for a gigantic SE release.

Giles 11-28-07 02:26 PM

well, um... Paramount is releasing this on Dec. 18th

Braveheart - Special Collector's Edition

just not on HD-DVD

Wow - I'm surprised it's not cropped to 1.78. I have hope it will be showed OAR on HBO soon.

HBO shows movies ??

;)

all kidding aside. I get the sense HBO is far more concerned with showing it's own series/shows than actually showing new and current movies.

RichC2 11-28-07 03:19 PM

Theres like 20 HBOs, 19 show movies.

DVD Polizei 11-28-07 09:12 PM

Not sure where this goes, but Band Of Brothers HD DVD (Japan) is now OOP. http://www.xploitedcinema.com showed this info last night when I was checking the price on it.

There are like 20 HBO's, 19 show movies. Only 1 is in HD. Guess which one?

It's one of my favorite HD releases. I'd highly recommend to anyone that liked the series to find a place to buy it now! :)

bunkaroo 11-29-07 11:14 AM

What I find odd is that some of the single discs are still in stock. Unless Xploited received some defective discs or an unequal number of each episode, I can't believe someone might buy just a couple episodes.

One week from Today, 12/7/07 WM's last secret sale will have the Toshiba HD A3/A2 with 5 free movies instantly plus 5 via mail in rebate.

Total of 25K players being shipped to stores with each store receiving a minimum of 5 units each. If my memory serves me right.

Some stores will receive the A3 and some the A2. Right now the prices in the system are $298/$198 respectively. I dont know if the price will drop as well.

These may be lowered to $99, or just stay at the current MSRP. Still not a bad price for those looking to pick up an A2 for $200 with 5 movies right away and 5 by mail.

Well, they do. And they are now royally fucked. Some might not be able to afford the entire series, but still be able to collect a few episodes every month or so. Luckily, I decided not to do this.

Gizmo 12-02-07 10:36 PM

So I just bought a used XA1 complete with a sealed copy of 300 for $130...good deal?
I love this player. Sure, it takes a minute to boot up, but damn, the picture difference between it and my A2/A3 is amazing. SD DVDs look better to and I love the metal remote and motorized door. Now I need to sell my A3

I was surpised to see "Braveheart" shown in 2.35. on Cinemax, but it seems that recently the Paramount "catalog titles" have been showing up in their OAR ("The Untouchables" for sure, and I believe "Black Rain" was another). If only this would become a trend...

stingermck 12-03-07 07:57 AM

Had anyone bought Rambo First Blood Part II? Ive seen listings for the German release (I believe) and now an Australian. Any idea which is better?

RichC2 12-05-07 01:44 PM

Death at a Funeral (German HD-DVD) is now available at xploited:

MBoyd 12-11-07 11:14 AM

The XA2 might be discontinued according to a thread on AVS. The XA2 is now listed in the "archive" section on Toshiba's website. Robert of Value Electronics says no XA3 for CES.

I picked up one at Fry's this morning. :) A little sooner than I expected but OK with that.
