Can someone report on the "up converting" quality of this unit for SD DVDs?

I have a V. Inc D1 up converting DVD player. Love it. By far the best DVD player I have ever owned. I did the modification as required and for the most part the player works great. But it is a little "flaky". Every now and then it won't play a disc. Eject the disc, power off and on and it plays. But this is a pain for the wife/kids.

I also have a PS3, which since the software upgrade is a very good up converting DVD player. But still not quite in the D1 category. I could probably live with it but since it will not work off my Harmony 880 remote, my wife won't touch it.

So, I was thinking as this Toshiba gets closer to $200 if it does excellent with SD DVD's which we have a large collection of, maybe I would just get it. It would solve the problem of having a stable high quality SD DVD player, work on the Harmony for my wife/kids and as almost an added bonus get HD!

Not sure I want to go HD, but most things I read have said to get a quality SD DVD player you have to go with the Oppo which is in the $200 range...

Upconverting on the A2 is nothing short of spectacular, if you ask me.

It's still $238.88 from Amazon with free shipping. The $219 price is from a different merchant and you'll also have to pay shipping.

The A2 is also $248.99 at circuitcity.com, for those who would rather pick up in-store.

I will also make a vote on the HD player with the standard dvds.. you are much better off with getting the HD player then the oppo.. don't get me wrong, the oppo is a fine player, but the HD player does a better job.

Woof!

Now that's a serious price... I bought by XA2 from Robert at VE, and they give stellar service.

Quick update for those of us that did get in on the $199 deal... I just called Value Electronics and they said their shipment of HD-A2s were delayed until (hopefully) this Friday. If they get them Friday morning they should ship then, if it's late in the day they should be shipping Monday.

It's looking like either late next week or early the week of the 13th for delivery.

I had "okay" service when I bought my HD-A2 a couple months back. Everything got there okay (eventually), but communication was lacking and the woman I talked to said something would ARRIVE on a certain day, when in fact it didn't SHIP until that day.
