Sounds excellent, this fall is going to be very interesting.

Glad Blade Runner is getting this treatment, seems the perfect cult film to get the high def and restoration retreatment.

It's been on HDNet Movies recently. Looks fantastic!

I thought this was kind of old news.
I forgot which HD DVD I bought, but there was an insert saying
Blade Runner
The Essential 25th Anniversary Edition
October 2007.

and on the other side:
Kubrick Collection
2001, A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut
Coming Soon to HD DVD and BluRay

I guess it wasn't really being advertised, though I thought this insert came in my Matrix set.

RockStrongo 06-15-07 08:58 AM

I know the Matrix boxset had that flyer in it.

And you can bet Blade Runner on HD DVD will be on my grubby little hands on release day.

I didn't think it was that great on HDNet. I suspect it will come out at a "3 star" on the video quality. That's nice, but I don't think it will be too great.

AOD 06-15-07 11:57 PM

Don't forget that HD via cable/dish is heavily compressed. This should easily trounce the HDNet showing.

Maybe "Open" could be the unrated version. ;)

OK, bit of an update. In this month's Total Film magazine there is an interview with Ridley. Here is what he said aabout the Blade Runner SE:
"It's finished. A five-disc set in a Deckard briefcase comes out this autumn. It's a state-of-the-art digital print, which we haven't really had for about 15 years. It'll probably be shown at the Venice film festival"
So this looks like a R1 release with the case. Would be nice if they could do that case with both HD versions. Time will tell.
In regards to Joanna Cassidy doing re-shoots, Ridley said they filmed her in front of greenscreen to put her face of the stuntgirls' when she gets "retired".

I am going to be so pissed if I have to buy the Standard DVD t set to get everything.

cornflakeguy 06-16-07 09:58 AM

Get ready to be pissed. I think the studios think HD viewers only care about movie PQ so therefore they can skimp on the extras.

With all the reshoots and restoring/remastering there is some prime content for some HD documentaries.

I asked the WB reps at the last HTF Chat this very question about whether or not Blu-ray and HD DVD would be getting all the same features as the big special edition DVD set for Blade Runner, and they confirmed that both formats would get all the same features (unlike the Superman issue last year). So in terms of content on the discs, it looks good (especially since WB has finally released a multi-disc HD set with The Matrix). But in terms of packaging...probably no briefcase, which personally doesn't bother me at all.

It's a dark film, for sure, and it may not be reference quality, but as has been said, it will likely be better than HD cable (which wasn't terrible).

This is going to look beautiful.
