HD-A2 vs. HD-A20 Want Advice Please
Hello,
I am wanting to take advantage of the sale this week at Amazon to upgrade my DVD player. I am curious though if the A20 is worth the extra 80.00 and not being able to get two more free HD-DVDs. Or since I have 1080p for my TV should I go ahead and get the A20 no matter what. I haven't actually seen a 1080p signal on my television yet, so I don't know how much of a differenc it makes. Thank you very much for your help.....these forums are the best. |
You should google 1080i vs. 1080p. To me, if your display has a good deinterlacer, it doesn't really matter.

I have a Sammy 1080p DLP 61" and I got the HD-D2 (Same thing as the HD-A2 but sold exclusively at Warehouse locations, I got mine at costco). My sammy has a Great deinterlacer, so I got no improvement from a unit that sent 1080p... It is all the same information 1920x1080, so on a good TV its the same.. If you can try both on your TV, you will see the cheaper one should work fine... I spent $250 on mine at costco and LOVE it, although not as much as my PS3 BRD player :)

Get the A2. Take the 80 bucks and buy 2 or 3 HD-DVD's.

There have been many claims that the A20 is much better at scaling SD DVDs due to an added video processor chip. That may be worth the extra $$$ even if you don't need the player to perform the deinterlacing.
