Honestly, neither are a marked improvement over the DVD releases.

I think 2 has marginally better picture quality than part 1, but both are very average, imo.

M:I-2 has the worst transfer. Lots of edge enhancement, filtering, and compression problems. M:I-3 looks the best, and M:I-1 is very good. M:I-2 is no better than mediocre.

So I assume M:I-2 is almost same as DVD. I will buy a M:I-1

M:I-2 comes from the same master that was used for the DVD release back in 2000. It looks better than the DVD -- it is High Definition, after all. But it has a lot of problems.

M:I-1 comes from the master used for the movie's Special Edition re-release in 2006. It's a fresher transfer and has fewer artifacts.

Wait for the eventual re-master with lossless audio.

You mean the studios are still doing this sh!t. Putting out crappy overcompressed, over edge-enhanced crumby transfers. I hope you guys aren't buying them. I got totally fed up buying the same movies over and over again on DVD. For god sake, how many times can they possibly keep releasing The 5th Element? When I'm ready to take the plunge, I swear I'm not buying anyless than a near perfect transfer.

Stay far away from The 40-Year-Old Virgin... EE is just horrible here.

Paramount isn't a studio that does a lot of double-dipping.
