New 'Mini' Sharp DVD Player to Play HD Discs?

Just got this off IMDB.Com so take it with a grain of salt... but I found it interesting. It's also being reported at endgadget.com as a laptop addition --- it's reportedly going to sell in mid June for under $100...

Sharp to Introduce Smallest DVD Player

Sharp has displayed an optical-drive player, which it says is the smallest in the world, that will play CDs, conventional DVDs, HD DVDs, and Blu-ray high-definition discs. The player also uses very little power (10mW), making it ideal for playing discs on laptop computers. Moreover, Sharp said that it expects that the retail price for the device will be less than $100 when it becomes available in mid-June.

I'll believe it when it's in people's hands.

I call BS - HD DVD and BD for under $100 - with a name brand - to quote Vince McMahon's theme music "no chance, no chance in hell."

This could be talking about the drive itself, not a stand-alone player or even a full-featured PC deck.

Not even that. It's a blue-laser diode for notebook computers.

I call shenanigans.

Thanks.

Since the subject of the thread is "New 'Mini' Sharp DVD Player to Play HD Discs?" and the answer looks to be a definitive "No", I think we can pretty safely close this. I mean, unless there's going to be a bunch of diode discussion.
