Can you ever get a crappy HDMI cable. Monoprice has them for cheap prices. Think there is some kind of catch. I just bought one from wal mart yesterday for 36.00 and my whole plan was to take it back and tell them it didnt work with my tv or something. So i can get my money back and get one off monoprice for like 9 bucks.

Is an HDMI cable all the same as other HDMI's?

There isn't any catch. Monoprice doesnt add the markups that B&M stores do. Places like Wal-Mart at ridiculous markups to them because they know you don't have any other choice when it comes to buying one.

Yeah, get the Monoprice ones with no qualms. Two of my four HDMI cables are the ridiculous $100 Best Buy ones, which were the only ones I could find early on before I discovered Monoprice and gave them a shot. On my comparisons there is no quality difference between the $100 one and the $10 one.

Since HDMI is all digital, either the bits get from one end of the cable to the other or they don't. Unlike analog cables, there won't be a situation where one cable can offer a marginal improvement in picture quality over another. Either you'll get a perfect picture, or you won't get one at all (or sometimes you'll get a horribly distorted picture filled with green sparklies). There's really no need to spend a lot of money on an HDMI cable. A cheap one is just as capable of carrying excellent picture quality as an expensive one.

Yes, it is possible to get a bad cable, but you'll know it right away due to (as mentioned before) either getting no picture at all or one filled with horrible green sparklies.

ok thanks man, just ordered one from mono prive. Plan on taking this wal mart overpriced one back as soon as my shipment comes in.

Walmart marks up cables about 70-80%, its where they profit most from in Electronics, when they only make $5 on a TV

Best Buy also has severe mark-ups. As an employee I have purchased $100+ dollar cables for less than $20.

I just got mine from Monoprice on Saturday. Awesome prices and great service. And it works like a champ.

My friend was at Best Buy the other day buying an upconverting DVD player, and they of course tried to sell him an overpriced HDMI cable. He told the salesperson that he'll just get one online for 10 bucks or so (monoprice). The salesperson told him that the cable was probably cheap because it could only handle up to 720p, not 1080p. Nice to see BB employees spouting nonsense to justify their high priced cables. -rolleyes-

I find it funny watching them try to sell cables that literally cost more than the equipment the customer is buying them for :lol:

Yeah, my friend's player was an open box item that cost 60 bucks, so it was HIGHLY unlikely that he would be willing to pay the same or more money on top of that just for a cable. :lol:

You know, I've seen HDMI cables that now have a "1080p certified" sticker on the packaging? :lol:

Actually, Monoprice's cables have been higher quality than those I've seen at B&M stores. And, no disrespect to Josh Z, but any wire cable can also transmit RF interference or grounding inconsistencies that can be visible and annoying onscreen, even if all the bits get through. I like Monoprice because they have ferrite cores on the cables to help prevent this problem.
