I'm guessing he's talking about this. http://www.valueelectronics.com/avstc.htm

Looks like if you buy it from them, you can get the 5 movie mail in, plus 5 more that they have pre-determined for a total of 10 free movies. But the five DVD's are really pretty shitty, so if you don't like it, you can chose 3 from a list over 200, for a total of 8 free movies.

Plus you get a free HDMI cable and 10 bucks off their 4 year warranty. Seems like it actually beats this week's Best Buy deal.

Note that the normal AVS price is $299 so all you are really getting is 5 shitty DVD's or 3 of your choice for the normal price of $299. So no big hurry.

Just got my Toshiba HD A-2 yesterday for 299.99 and picked up a HDMI cable from walmart for 37.00

I watched Hulk in HD and it looked amazing.

Tuesday I have to take in my receipt and buy the Matrix Trilogy so I can get my 2 free HD DVD's.

I'm so happy with this purchase.

*Anyone have the link where you can order the HDMI chord for 6 bucks online?

Thanks for the url.

Do you think there is anything wrong with those HDMI cables? I mean, a hdmi cable is an hdmi cable right? Does it really matter if it's copper plated or tin plated?

People here suggested monoprice to me when I got my player and my $8 cable has worked to perfection. Amazing. (and amazing what a rip off the other cables from BB etc are). I'll go there for every cable I need in the future.

Most of my HT is wired in monoprice cables. Including a 35ft component cable (to the LCD, used to go to projector) and 12-20ft component, HDMI, HDMI-DVI, composite and s-video cables (to the projector), optical cables, plus assorted shorter interconnects in the audio rack. And some speaker cable (some of it came from Home Depot).

I love monoprice.

I might recommend this one to my parents. $249 is great. And you still get five free movies!

I too picked up the HD-D2 from CostCo for $250. I'm loving it so far, although I now need to upgrade my receiver much earlier than expected. It doesn't have DTS decoders built it, so I'm stuck with 2.0 sound at this point. I'd planned to upgrade it anyway down the line, but now I have to move that schedule up just a bit.

oops, i meant to say the costco deal seems to be the best. at that price you can still get the free 5 movies and even if you pick up a couple more you'll be under or even with these other offers. with costco, however, no waiting for it to ship like at VE.

A small catch is that the Value Electronics deal, the shipping is a whopping $19.99, which makes this somewhat less appealing but still a good deal overall. For me the difference between the this and the Costco deal including tax, is about $53. I doubt I could find 3 HD-DVD movies for $53. I'm very tempted. I vowed to sit out the HD disc wars but I might just jump in.

My 6 year old son has a saying

"HD DVD rules - Blu Ray sucks!"

I get teary eyed when he says that....

I'm slowly doing research...picking up stuff here and there in my quest for a player...but i'm almost positive I saw a HDMI cable for no more than $10 at BJ's..

Also, I know that HD-DVD players do HD-DVDs and SDVDs, but do they play things like .avis and whatnot?

Anyone pick one up at a Costco in NC? I havent stopped by yet to check myself, but a friend who works there says no store in the state has them.

EDIT, finally got someone on the phone, but they said they haven't received any yet

I picked up the A2 yesterday at BB for $299. It was the only one there or last one left (dunno which). I'll go in for the Matrix deal later today. The nearest Costco is about 2 hours away, so that wasn't an option.

I'll be flipping my Oppo 970 and my 360 hd-dvd add on ebay for it. Should come out close to even.
