Just as I expected, Superman Returns is the top-selling movie so far with both formats taken into consideration.

I wish One Six Right was on there, as I'm curious to see how that has done. Out of what I have, that would probably be the least-selling.

The list again shows the importance of new releases. There are always going to be those people who just won't buy something they already have on another format again. Is it any wonder that despite their delays for whatever reason, Fox is releasing titles like Eragon and Night at the Museum now, rather than later when they're forgotten?

I guess I shouldn't be too surprised that Chicago hasn't sold all that well with the gamerz demographic; I'm just thankful they saw fit to release it at all.

(Not that I see that happening, but there have definitely been situations where studios press and ship way too many copies of a title. Shrek 2 leaps to mind as being a title where the studio radically misjudged demand at retail.)

Oh I get that. My point was when this happens, the retailer gets credited - they've stilled paid for the whole shipment I believe. It's not a "pay as you sell" situation. So in that case they could claim 100K "sold" - sold to stores.

Maybe we could account for all of them. ;)

My brother almost was number 5. He wanted the standard DVD set, so I got it for him, then a month later the fucker gets into HD DVD. -ohbfrank-

Might even be considerably less than 1/3 for more obscure or classic titles. How many B&M retailers would even bother to stock Forbidden Planet, Grand Prix, The Adventures of Robin Hood, or Blazing Saddles?

I have quite a few HD DVDs and every one has been purchased on-line. The nearest B&M store that sells HD discs is 95 miles away from me and I refuse to pay B&M prices anyway.

So, if this report is limited to certain B&M retailers, I would think it grossly understates actual sales.

0 out of five stores in the Toledo area carry them. If I travel about an hour to a much smaller market (Sandusky) I can find one that has BD and HDDVD. I really don't understand their decision making process.

My local Walmart has a large section for HD DVD and BD. I spoke with the head of the department and she said they will send her the tags for the movies, but half of the movies never show up. So rather than leaving a space empty for weeks, they rearrange them and put something else in there.

Mine has 30 spots, about 20 of those are for BD and the other 10 for HD DVD. They have Babel and Happy Feet on HD DVD. For BD, all I saw was Goodfellas, T2, American Psycho, Happy Feet, Babel, Kingdom of Heaven, Monster House, Rocky Balboa, and Casino Royale.

Clearly, they're at least getting some BD movies in.

In Indy about 1/2 of the Walmarts carry HD. The prrices are almost always the cheapest B&M around.

Wow, those are pretty sad numbers all around :(

The Wal-Mart across the street from me carries most of the day/date releases on both formats. They stock virtually nothing in the way of catalog titles, at least on HD DVD; Batman Begins might be it. Like Mr. Cinema's local store, it's weighted around 2/3rds in Blu-ray's favor. The only other local store I've checked had spots for both formats, although at the time I looked, they only had Blu-ray discs in stock. This was quite a long while ago, so things might've changed there.

Stopped in Wally World today and they are completely out of BD's. Still have about 20 slots for them, but the entire section is totally empty. They have 2 copies of Babel on HD DVD and 6-7 of Happy Feet. I'm glad to see the discs consistently selling.
