Typical Amazon. But how could they be so off? Lossless for both? That Imax documentary that had nothing to do with the set?

Th0r S1mpson 04-21-07 11:38 AM

When I go to order this at Amazon, it says estimated ship date is May 20 when I go to check out. Why would that be?

Because you're in their que. It won't take that long, but it will take a while depending upon how many people are in front of you, how many they have in stock and how you shipped it.

It is $57.57 at the WB store with coupons.

1) Enter RNDIS for "Spend over $50 on any of your favorite DVDs and we'll give you 10% off and cover the shipping and handling! Expires 4/30"

2) Enter WBWEL for another 20% off

Okay, I guess I'll give the WB shop a go on this one... I don't trust them to get this out quickly or anything though.

I just got this excellent set in HD-DVD but I was wondering...where the heck are the extras???

I'm pretty disappointed. I knew we were getting no extras, but I really expected this set to look better. I've watched the first three episodes and I'm not impressed with the quality of the HD. Its not bad, just uneven and rather average overall. I really wish I had bought this on DVD.

What happened to "The Dream Is Alive"? I don't see it listed on any reviews. Was it included in the HD or the SD versions?

SterlingBen 05-21-07 09:42 AM

Are there comparison screen shots between bd and hd versions yet?

Amazon apparently had their wires crossed. The Dream is Alive is included on the upcoming Blue Planet on July 31.

What's the point? :)

Has the studio said why they short shrifted the HD versions? I find this bizarre. So well done otherwise, packaging notwithstanding.

Still trying to pick a format to go with. Hd-DVD is currently in the lead though.

There won't be a winner as far as quality goes, as the releases have identical video encodes and soundtracks.

HD-DVDs have bookmarks. And the player is cheaper.

Actually, Warner did not give this set bookmark support. Complete waste of a great feature.

Thanks for the info.

Based on how much I like this series, I will probably pick up the Blue Planet one as well.

Planet Earth (Why the lack of Special Features on the High Def versions?)

I wonder why the BBC didn't include the extras that are on the standard dvd release. I feel a bit ripped when I paid quite a bit more for the high def version of this show to find out later that I'm missing some 2-3 hours of extra features. The least the BBC could have doneis released a 5th disc with the special features on a standard dvd. It wouldn't have been too much to ask I don't think. I do realize that there are other Blu-Ray and HD releases that are somewhat bare bones, although with little reason, when compared to the SD release of the same movie. However, in this case it really shouldn't have happened.

Lengthy discussion here in the HD area.

Thanks for the link! I guess I'll take my frustration over there.

dsa_shea 06-11-07 08:27 PM

I am really disappointed with the lack of available Special Features on the HD version. I just picked up the Blu-Ray version of this set, at a higher price, and found out there are several hours of special features that they decided not to include. I don't see why we can't ask the producers of this set if they will send us a copy of the special features disc. Maybe if enough people who bought the HD versions asked they would do something to accomodate us.

I wanted to Netflix the 5 disc of the standard dvd, but it's not even listed! They only have the four discs available. :(

LiK 06-12-07 09:04 AM

i got the BD set and the video is drop dead gorgeous! too bad no extras like with the SD set. but after watching this in HD, i can't find myself buying the SD set for the extras alone. i guess they'll probably release those in the future in HD, i hope.

Blockbuster Online has the 5th disc. I actually have it coming in the mail right now.

Grrr... Netflix has never treated me wrong. I've never been throttled and they have most of the Criterion discs that I've wanted to rent. Maybe it's time to look into Blockbuster, however.
