Rumor Mill: Lord of the Rings Trilogy — 11/23/2007?
Rumor on AVSM:
(It's a follow-up from this post.
This points to a supposed Black Friday release and a complete clusterfuck on New Line's part. EE only in Blu-Ray? Theatrical only on HD DVD? It doesn't make any sense.
I don't believe this for a second. Until I see a press release. I'm not sure who this guy is, maybe someone can enlighten us as to how accurate his information has been?
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy will be released on both Blu-ray and HD-DVD on November 23, 2007.
Here is the interesting part:
As a gesture of good faith over the Matrix release, New Line/WB will be releasing only the Extended Editions on Blu-ray at this time, while HD-DVD will get only the Theatrical Versions.
The Blu-ray version will be on a BD50 in VC-1 with PCM!! It will also showcase a lot of the neat features of BD-J.

That rumour is totally false. The guy who posted that is a known BD zealot who's trying to stir things up because of all the hoopla going on with the release of The Matrix on HD DVD.

I'll second it. I reported the thread over at AVS as unverified tripe from a known BR fanboy who posts pseudo-official "annoucements" every other day solely to get a rise out of HD-DVD owners.
Apparently AVS mods are just fine with that type of behavior on the part of BR owners... the last HD-DVD uberzealot who tried that (Oshodi) was banned from the forum, but apparently they only ban HD-DVD owners over there...
(sorry if I sound bitter or cynical, but BR owners are able to get away with murder on AVS...)

I thought the semi-quasi-official word was that LOTR would be issued on Total HD.

This is the same poster who insisted that the Die Hard Trilogy and Spider-man movies were going to be announced at CES, and the same poster who perpetuated the myth that the Star Wars trilogy was coming to Blu-ray this winter. I don't trust him.
However, this information could turn out to be true, and if so, then it does sound like quite the mess. Theatrical on one format and extended on another? That's not at all definitive....
