No More 10% Discount at Amazon?

Just tried pre-ordering the HD Born on the Fourth of July and it didn't show. Is this offer over?

bunnydojo 03-22-07 06:37 PM

It didn't work for me on Children of Men until I tried today, so I think it is a matter of them having to manually click some box that makes the item eligible for the 10% off... so it takes a while before it registers for pre-orders. Other have said to just go through with the order and have them manually adjust the price.

Drexl 03-22-07 06:37 PM

No, it just takes time to show up on new pre-orders. I believe some have said you can email them and get the discount, but I just wait for it to show up if I pre-order at all.

mdc3000 03-22-07 06:55 PM

This is probably a stupid question, I've ordered HD's from amazon and gotten the discount...I just went neutral and am wondering, is this discount applied to BD's as well or only HD DVDs?

Yes, both HD disc formats get the discount.

Flynn 03-22-07 08:21 PM

A clarification:

If you didn't sign up for this discount last year, is it still available now? Thanks for clearing this up anybody.

Drexl 03-22-07 08:43 PM

No, it's not available now.

Eric D. 03-22-07 10:25 PM

Yea, Amazon is a little slow with getting the discount applied to pre-orders. If you want, you can always just email them about it and they should apply it for you.

Josh Z 03-23-07 11:02 AM

I have never gotten the 10% discount to work automatically on any order I've ever placed with Amazon. I've had to email them and get a manul price correction every single time.

Overpar 03-23-07 12:54 PM

I just tried with a pre order and an in stock item and both got the 10% discount. It takes effect at the last screen when you are confirming your order.

mhinkley 03-23-07 02:24 PM

Yah...it works...you just have to normally wait 2 or 3 days after the pre-order first shows up...I have had no problems with them taking it off of both BD and HD.

Here's a cut and paste from ym AVS post regarding my experience with this:

"Well this has been an interesting order history with Amazon.

When the discount wasn't showing up, I contacted their CS and they said they'd discount it by $3. Cool.

A few days later I noticed the discount isn't showing. I contact them again, and the CS person tells me it will be charged at the lower price when it ships. OK.

A few days ago, I get a message stating the CS promoised me a price discount they can't do on the item, so here's a $5 claim code for my next order. Groovy.

So I cancel the current Children Of Men order I have, and when I go to redo the order, the 10% is now coming off. So I now have Children of men on order for 25.19, and also minus the $5 code for a total of $20.19. Very happy with the outcome.

But wait! Yesterday, I get ANOTHER email saying sorry for the difficulties and that they can't give me the promised diso**** (Likely a product of my second email), and I get ANOTHER $5 claim code. I've since applied that to my 4/3 order.

Amazon rules."

gongon78 03-25-07 12:45 AM

how do you guys even get the 10% discount?

bunkaroo 03-25-07 08:02 AM

At one point you had to have 3 HD-DVD's and/or Blu-Ray's on the same order. That enabled it for your account.

Not sure if that still does it or not.

^ Qualifying for the 10% discount promotion ended at the end of last year. I believe that the discount continues until the end of this year for those of us who got it. (Originally it was supposed to last just one year for each of us, but it was extended to the end of 2007, IIRC.)

One of the very few advantages of being an early adopter...

bunkaroo 03-26-07 12:40 AM

I usuallly parlay the discount into near-free 2-day shipping., since I just can't seem to give Amazon the $80 for Prime.

I bought my 3 HD-DVDs on 1/10/07. I got the discount, and had it adjusted once after that. Now I'm told it was a mistake and I'm screwed. I'm SO pissed at them now -- there's no way I would have bought 3 HD-Dvds at once if I didn't think I was getting the year-long discount as well. Amazon sucks!

Toxic Handshake 03-28-07 10:42 AM

I bought 3 Blu-ray discs in February and then emailed Amazon to see if I could get in on the 10% discount deal. I was denied. Here is part of the reply I received:

Hello from Amazon.com.

I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.

I have checked into your account and found that you are not eligible
for the Blue_Ray promotion, again I apologize.

Please know that if you purchased a qualifying High-Definition TV or
DVD player, Blu-ray disc player, or three High-Definition DVDs or
Blu-Ray discs from Amazon.com on or before Dec. 31, 2006, you've
been enrolled to save 10% on all HD DVD and Blu-ray disc purchases
through Dec. 31, 2007. (The total value of this discount is limited
to $5,000 in total purchases or $500 in total discounts.)

Any high definition DVDs purchased in the same order as the
qualifying item will also receive the 10% discount--including the
three HD DVDs or Blu-ray discs purchased to qualify for the
promotion.

I just pre-ordered The Good Shepherd and it didn't show up, so I e-mailed them and they actually took 10% off my whole order. I e-mailed them backing telling them that they incorrectly applied the 10%, but it's still there...oh well :)

DthRdrX 04-04-07 03:35 PM

I must be lucky. I have had the 10% off applied automatically every single time.

Just Lurking 10-20-07 04:39 PM

Sorry to drag up an old thread.

I just purchased PS3 so get some BR from Amazon. My problem is that I have always ordered. HD DVD to get the discount. Now that I am trying to order BD, I get no discount. I thought the original offer included both HD DVD and BD. Any one had any luck or am I just wrong.

Supermallet 10-20-07 04:42 PM

You should be able to get it on both formats. Email Amazon about it.

BravesMG 10-20-07 04:42 PM

I ordered HD-DVDs to get in on the deal and my discount works with both HD and BD. If you did enroll during the sign up period with a qualifying purchase and your discount is only working on HD-DVDs, I'd send an email to Amazon customer service, they're very good about helping out most of the time.

Just Lurking 10-20-07 04:47 PM

Yes I got in on the deal last year. I have had them adjust HD DVD prices many time for the discount. I just tried to order Rat movie, Cars and Pixar Shorts. It did not give me discount on any of them. Guess its time to email Amazon.

So nobody is having problems getting discount to show automatically on the titles?

Supermallet 10-20-07 04:49 PM

I find it's about half and half. Sometimes it does show up, sometimes it doesn't.

Just Lurking 10-20-07 05:01 PM

Problem solved. Amazon had screwed up a few Amazon prime shipments so they had given me a promo credit. It was applying the promo credit to the order first which blocked a second promo credit from being applied to order.

My first 3 BDs are now ordered.

thanks for the help everyone
