Drool. So much for only getting the first title. Guess the whole set is getting upgraded. Not to bad since I only invested in buying the original release as my first purchase for $9.99 (Circuit City loss leader after Thanksgiving in 1999) and the ultimate set for less than $50. It is about time Warner got its head out of its ass and released stuff to te HD-DVD people that actually have their ducks in a collective row. I have both systems, but generally by Warner stuff on HD-DVD so I say bring it on. Right after my birthday so I can use that as an excuse to buy this also.

8 Discs? 35 hours is a lot of extra material. Rather pricey though; I wonder how well that package will sell?

I would wager - beyond well. I would guess that it - despite cost - could be on the level of Casino Royal. People may wait to see if Warner does an individual release, but they have not yet on DVD so I would not count on it. It should be around $80 at most at amazon which is less than the cost of three individual BD releases in most cases.

I already have the Ultimate Collection on DVD. If the special features are also in HD, this will be a definite purchase. The Animatrix in HD would be nice as well. I would love some exclusive stuff, too! Pleaseee Warner! Please!!!

I'll be waiting for the individual releases on this one (for 1 only), as I've only watched my Reloaded disc once and have yet to watch Revolutions on DVD. I'm guessing this will be the one where the color timing is adjusted on the original to match the sequels?

One will be a definate upgrade for me when it eventually comes, though, as I still have the original great-in-its-time-but-not-so-much-by-today's-standards release. :)

Welcome news for the HD-DVD supporters out there (like me), but I'll have to plan ahead to afford that set. Also, this is the perfect example of an HD-DVD set that should have already been released in order to help to get consumers to adopt the HD-DVD format. Warner really needs to price this set attractively and to promote it heavily. Throughout this high def format war, I have been perplexed at how poor Toshiba, Warner, Universal and Paramount have promoted this format. I hope this release is the start of a new trend to better promote the format.

I'll definitely be getting one of the two sets. If the extra aren't HD I may just get the movie set.

My favorite of the group is Reloaded, so I'm definitely getting the mega set. These should all be reference discs.

Although I won't be buying this since I am not a fan of the Matrix movies, it is nice to see such big news for HD DVD. This should be a huge boost for the format come May 22.

Wow. That should be cool. BTW, WTF is up with this nonsensical quote: "The Matrix — released 12 times on DVD — was the first disc to sell 1 million units..."

Very good news. I just have the original releases of the first three. I've almost bought the special editions like ten times, but I'm glad I didn't. Definite purchase for me!

Was The Matrix really released twelve times on DVD? I know there was the original, a remastered two disc in the collection, and I think one with that behind the scenes Matrix disc.

Great news, I love the first two films. I'm definitely picking up the Ultimate edition.

I already own the Ultimate Matrix Collection w/ Neo Bust on DVD...so I will most likely save $20 and just buy the movies. No sense in rebuying special features that aren't even in HD.

Exactly... Ok well, I wouldnt mind the first one but I cant pull the trigger because of the other 2. I am excited for HD-DVD though, this is a pretty big deal for the format right now.

I only have the first release of the original film so I'll probably pick this up.

I also have the Neo-bust Ultimate DVD set, so I may just get the standard version.

'The Matrix' Trilogy Comes to HD DVD

In one of the biggest catalog announcements yet for HD DVD, Warner Home Video has set a May 22 arrival for two extensive box set collections of the blockbuster 'Matrix' series.

The revolutionary sci-fi trilogy, which grossed over $600 million in the U.S. alone, has long been rumored to be in the planning stages for next-gen release. Thought to be a "killer app" -- the kind of trojan horse title that would entice non-early adopters into the high-def fold -- Warner is already gearing up for one of its biggest-ever HD DVD releases.

The studio will unleash two different configurations, both streeting simultaneously on May 22.

'The Complete Matrix Trilogy' will span three discs and include each film in the trilogy -- 'The Matrix,' 'The Matrix Reloaded' and 'The Matrix Revolutions' -- plus a four bonus disc with extras, 'The Matrix: Revisited.' Each film will also include an Interactive Movie Experience (IME) feature exclusive to the HD DVD, which will deliver an video commentary featuring interviews with the cast and filmmakers, behind-the-scenes footage and more.

'The Ultimate Matrix Collection' will replicate the extensive standard-def box set of the same name which debuted two years ago. In addition to the three IME-enhanced 'Matrix' titles and 'The Matrix Revisited,' an additional 35 hours of bonus materials will be included.

Warner has not yet issued full specs for either box set, including whether what, if any, supplemental features will be presented in 1080p. But we'll certainly keep you posted.

Suggested list price will be $99.99 for 'The Complete Matrix Trilogy' and, for only $20 more, you can grab 'The Ultimate Matrix Collection' for $119.99.
