It'll be official tomorrow. This is a great deal. Value Electronics usually offers 2 free movies if you purchase from them, so 7 free movies with a player purchase is a damn good deal. Bring on the A20!

mod edit to add the information below. -namja

So I assume it would have to be for pruchases starting/after 3-1? Could be a sweat deal combined with what BB has this week.

I just bought the A2 from BB on Sunday - have to figure out a way to request a new receipt since I took advantage of the 4 free titles in store. The only "problem" is that I counted 75 HD DVD titles last night on my shelf and I might already have those that are free. :-)

This was my problem picking the 3 free ones. I already had all the good ones.

Dammit, between this and the 1080p output on the A20, I wish I would have held off on my 360 add on. If I could find a way to unload the add on for a decent price, I'll swing for the A20.

Looks like I'll have to cancel my A20 preorder at ValueElectronics and reorder it tomorrow. I'll get 2 extra HD-DVDs for my trouble.

Interesting, I still haven't sent in my form for the 3 free ones. Looks like I can just wait to see what type of selection I get from the 5 free ones.

This ad is supposed to be in the new issue of Rolling Stone. Full details should be on The Look and Sound of Perfect website tomorrow. Hopefully the free title selection has expanded.

Does this new promotion only apply to the HD-A20, or does it apply to other models?

I'm sure it applies to all the models. I doubt Toshiba would wanna dissuade people from buying the XA2.

Plus, while this rebate starts tomorrow, the A20 isn't coming out for another month or two. So I'm quite certain that that it'll at least include the A2 and the XA2.

Man, so much for those of us who bought last year before all this... I wonder if I can write a letter to Toshiba. Hell, couldnt hurt. Its just too early for me to upgrade already. Hell it took me 3 years before I updated my original dvd player and that thing was a huge POS.

So, let me get this straight...

If I go tomorrow to buy the XA2 from Besy Buy, I get 4 free immediately + a rebate form for 5 more free DVDs from Toshiba?

Also, what is the difference between the XA2 and the A20? The A20 outputs 1080p native or like the XA2 thru the de-interlacer? Does the A20 have 5.1 (or even better, 7.1) outputs on the back of the player?

There "should" be a new form on the HD DVD website tomorrow.

A20 does 1080p and also uses the Reon chip, same as the higher end XA2. It doesn't have analog outs. I think there also some additional color/picture adjustment options on the XA2. Josh Z has one, he can provide specific features of it.

Basically:

base model: A2
middle: A20
high end: XA2

The A2 will likely be dropping price soon, so it's gonna be a nice value. But I'm likely going to opt for the A20 as it shares the same high end processor as the XA2 and can be had for almost $300 cheaper.

If the A2 drops to $300 soon, I may have to get that one. But I really want the A20 also.

Can you even buy the XA2 from Best Buy? It isn't even listed on their Web site.

This will be great for when my parents get our new TV in the living room. I'm gonna convince them to get an A20.

The selection is still very limited. Same overall choices as the 3 FREE deal, but now in 5 categories in stead of 3 (you get to pick ONE from each of the five categories):

Category A: Apollo 13, Seabiscuit, The Chronicles of Riddick
Category B: Casablanca, Constantine, Dukes of Hazzard
Category C: Four Brothers, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
Category D: The Rundown, Blazing Saddles, U2: Rattle and Hum
Category E: U-571, The Perfect Storm, We Were Soldiers
